SHIP DESIGN : External Appearance vs Internal usability
I always like big wide cockpits and winged design , but when i thinker with shipbuilder i found out the best looking ship design is not always the easiest to move inside (too many ladders)

Internally :
- i prefer flat no ladder design for all my habs
- dockers on first hab connecting to the cockpit and landing bay front facing to this first hab
-

externally :

- i prefer winged apperance with weapons and engines on strut/wings off the right and left side of the ship , centered cockpit

the only 2 designs i can find is these , but both have stubby wings not a long graceful wings

i know i spent HOURS in ship builder design screen than in game and spent so many credits i got from boarding pirates and random bounty hunters assaulting me (from WANTED trait)

i barely did any ground combat in random POI , just moving around surverying gas giants and looking for trouble in space lol

I generally design an interior layout, and then build an exterior around it...

I'm subbed to a few Facebook ship builder groups, and so many of them look amazing, but when you really look closely, they're just solid blocks of structural components, and are barely functional as an actually playable ship...

I design an exterior, and then design the interior to fit that.

Yeah, i'll have ladders, but, i do try to keep it use-able. That said, i build things like this;

so.. the interior layout is always going to be difficult.

same with me , i think of interlal layout ease of access , minimizing ladders , putting docker close to cockpit and landing bay close to cockpit too..

but omg i wish my ship looks great from teh outside , not like a cramped frog (especially with that wide cockpit from titan)

I prefer the Cabot bridge from NG. Two levels so you don't have to worry about ladders

where do you get CABOT Bridge ? i got a bridge from titan that have 2 connection points (above / below) and it is good although the ship looks like a frog with that bridge

Titan is the only place that sells the Cabot bridge (The frog bridge). C3/C3X and C4 versions.

I've always liked that bridge, but as much as it's big, it only has 2 crew slots, compared with other large (and some not so large) cockpits, making it's only real attraction being visual.

You'd think, for an planet exclusive, it would have something special about it (Other than the staircase) like higher cargo capacity, higher speed, better shield ability, or something like that...

the annoying thing about CABOT bridge is that i cannot connect rear facing landing bay with rear entrance to the bottom end of cabot bridge directy

Nah, the main performance item from Titan is the NG-20 landing legs. They have 4 landing thrust, supporting 800 mass each, and come in several visual varieties. The only other way to get 4 landing thrust on a single landing leg is to go for the massive Hope-55 units from Hopetech.

I suppose the Nova Galactic side halls are an honorable mention for forcing doors to certain points when building nacelle designs for your ship. Hopetech has a version too, but theirs are way heavier.

True, Those Nova's are good, though i rarely use them. The lack of a side connector is a real pain to work around :steamsad:

True, if you want side connectors at that height Stroud-Ecklund has a model with 3 landing thrust.

which shipyard sell that side corridor struts that can force connection doors in habs
Duneman Nov 7, 2024 @ 5:52pm
Titan(Saturn's moon) sells the Nova Cross Passage, seen on ships like the Civ Shuttle/Abyss Trekker and the Wagontrain. Hopetech in Hopetown should sell the Spines.
