Question about player homes?
Are the player homes just for the player or can companions/ship crew use that as well?

Just for the player really. One of the reasons I don't bother with Dream Home.

Best you can do is build housing on outposts and assign them there.

So the player homes are worthless then? shame What about outposts do they act the same way fallout 4 settlements work or are they also worthless player only?

I wouldn't say their worthless as you can customize them however you want, including putting workshops etc in them. But personally I find it easier to just do all that on my ship, making it a mobile home that's always where you are. And your crew will make use of it too.

Outposts are a little different since you can assign crew to work it. And some companions have skill that will make them more efficient. So closer to Fallout 4 settlements. Though overall I prefer the F4 version. Mostly because Cargo links aren't as useful as setting up trade routes between settlements.

But still useful. And its very good to have at least one outpost with a large landing pad since you can use it for ship modification and selling/buying ships.

A better question for the OP is what do you want them to do at your Home or Outpost. What experience are you looking for?

If they have the Skills/Perks. You can (as the player) gain benefits of crew assigned to outposts. Since there is no (UNMODDED) Capability to create resources at a HOME there is no benefit to Resource Production for Player homes.

Now two Points need to be mentioned on this particular Point.

1. There is a GNN Newscast regarding Private Homes being used as buisinesses and a City Council Vote to affect this.

2. There is a Conversation in Akila City near the Manor Player Home that questions the viability of using Housing as a Business.

I just like to point out details.

I also prefer fo4 version of building because companions and ship crew don't auto go to your outpost you have to do this manually I just wish there was an option to make the outposts as a settlement like fo4, but to be honest starfield felt similar to mass effect andromeda but without the mea romance mechanics seeing that beth did not add the nudity love scenes that me 1,2,3 and Andromeda has but it does have the mea building outpost style.

Did you consider homes in Skyrim to be worthless? It's almost the same thing, but a bit more useful.. It's a place to set up crafting stations, storage, and decorate.

Although I do wish we had access to base building options as well...

The only base building is the outposts and by default there is not much that we can build compared to fallout 4 this is why I said starfield reminds me of mea.

The outpost system is very lackluster in my opinion. I constantly look side eyed at it going through the options. It is not a step forward in the Game design of Beth Games. if anything its a slight step back.

I will be looking closely at any future DLC dedicated to Outposts. I have a sarcastic Um Huh loaded and ready to go if I see any indications of pulling content from release.

The Stoves in Player homes being decor and not functional is a big Middle Finger to the Player. It is literally attaching the animations and station UI to the object. In theory a 10 minute job (actually 2 minute but I like to pad my estimates).

I agree with you on everything you've typed, this is why I favor and prefer fallout 4's building mechanics.
