Ship Inventory and switch home ships
Newer player and I have to be doing something incorrectly

Long story short, I have 3 ships, one is my cargo ship. I put my resources in that ship.. all good.. but then I switch home ships and you would think the cargo would remain in the cargo ship but it seems to be transferring to my new home ship.

Is there a way to keep cargo in the ship I put it in versus moving with me?

The other question on ships, currently I only have 4 slots but I've seen others with 10. How do you get more ship slots? Granted, probably only need 2 (Fighter and cargo).

Thanks

Nope. Anything you put in your ship moves with you when you change home ships. That includes when/if you 'commandeer' another ship. (boarding action, whether it be in space, or on the ground.)

I don't recall what the vanilla max number of ships is, but, it's a simple game setting, you can add a line to your starfieldcustom.ini to increase it to whatever you want.

ships only have 1 inventory. That is the inventory access of your home ship. Change ship, its the same storage! But if you change to a smaller capacity ship, it will over-fill and if full, you cannot put more into it, but change to the bigger one, you can stuff it in and swap back (seems very awkward).

number of ships is 10 max, and the value you see is how many you currently own. There are close to 10 free ships in the game (I mentally counted 8 and may have missed some?), so you never have to buy or steal one, but I usually steal a few in my early game and just upgrade those. Registration is about the same cost as buying, but stealing is a discount and its fun :)

My 2 cents on all this:
- every ship you use should have a good bit (my number is 4kish) of cargo space after the very early game.
- titan is oft overlooked by new players (saturn moon), but stop there first and add a bunch of the real landing gear (4 thrust) to your ship before you add all that cargo weight. Otherwise you will need 2-4 times as many of the other gear and its a lot of space used up.
- its probably best if your ship has 'everything' (big shield, big reactor, good cargo, 4-6 crew space, crafting stations, bed, solid weapons (one set of particle beams are my go-to), max jump range of 30, 500+ fuel). Dedicated ships and swapping is mostly not useful, unless you just want an exceptional ship as a dogfighter or an extra mega 10k+ cargo boat.

here is a high level (all parts available to me) example... this tiny ship has all that. Its only B class so its weapons could be a little better, but I was going for small for fun.
