Why are Outposts so complicated?!?!?! (And other mindless rantings.)
So I've spent about 40 levels playing this game.. And I've tried following guides on how to make Outposts in this game..

But what is bugging me is whenever I setup a Cargo Link I want it to be like Fallout 4 and have all my items from all my bases be available for crafting and manufacturing..

Instead I have a bunch of filled up containers, having mixed resources and products.. Because for some reason they made the containers have super tiny weight limits, and overcomplicated the transfer of resources...

I mean if they wanted ships to carry cargo in real-time that is fine.. (just make it cosmetic or something.) But the weight limit is what gets me..

I mean in Fallout 4 I always get the Strong Back perk rank 5 So I can be a loot goblin and build awesome bases across the 20 or 30 settlements.. And I never had to worry about weight except to drop junk and food items to get my weight back to normal..

Why couldn't they have done that here? I mean if you need to have 4 perks in order to fast travel, Your ship has unlimited storage. Outposts had unlimited storage and could easily connect to one another via cargo links and share all resources. (But still have a limit on resources based on storage buildings.)

That would of been much better.... But it seems to artificially drag out the experience and makes it harder and longer to accomplish... And even then I have built 4 outposts. Mostly by buying the resources themselves from traders and setting up extractors, generators etc..

Heck even Fallout 3 had a reasonable weight limit.. But I could store a lot of items in my locker in Megaton.. (And any armor or weapons could be repaired for much greater profit and space saving.)

Oblivion had Feather spells that could drastically increase your weight limit, and you could enchant rings and an amulet with 100 Feather each. (Plus make your armor weight zero with skill perk, and the max base weight of 500.. And case Feather Spell for 360 Feather. Essentially adding to 960 Feather with no other enchantments on your armor.)

Even In Skyrim you could gain infinite weight via leveling up. (5 points be Stamina increase.) Or even make a potion to increase Carry Weight by over 300 points for 300 seconds...)

And all there games had companions that could carry over 200 lbs of equipment. (sometimes more.)

But in these game EVERYTHING has a weight limit... Plus you have a tiny 140kg weight limit, and your companions have a 115kg weight limit. (I think it's pretty small.)

And with crafting and Outposts there is another snag, You need perks to build and research all the buildings, Oh wait you have to spend 10+ skill points first to unlock 1 tree's skill tier.. And then you have to complete challenges to unlock the next skill rank perk... And then you need a skill point to go into that skill instead of the other skills.. And then you need to research it using some rare or high-tier manufactured goods...

Honestly I put in a good number of hours into this game.. But I really think I'm just wasting my time... I mean they even put in New Game Plus (honestly which is awesome..) Until you realize it will completely erase all your outposts and you would need to start the process all over again.

I've been so busy "building up" that I still don't have any skill points in my lockpicking skill.. At level 40... I passed up some good loot rooms behind locked doors, because I thought I could build up a good supply chain as fast as I could in Fallout 4 and make a buttload of materials and sell it for a bunch of money....

BTW playing on Xbox One.. So I can't use mods without breaking Achievements.. But I hope they patch a bunch of changes and fixes soon...

But considering Bethesda NEVER changes core mechanics in a game... I doubt any of the weight limitation problems or the many game breaking bugs will be fixed soon.. if at all...

I mean people like this game right? It's not just cause it was made by Bethesda and they are fanatically trying to protect them as fans..

I mean the fun is there.. It's just hidden behind so many annoying little things that really bring down the fun... I'm pretty sure I'm not even going to spend my money on a official car DLC because I'm already frustrated with this game...

One final rant... I hate the companions in this game... Everyone of the human characters always B**ch at me for picking up stuff.. Even valuable stuff. and get randomly angry at me for no reason.. Even if it follows their morale compass I seem to still piss them off...

Plus when I piss them off instead of just lowering affinity, they end up not attacking enemies, and are not targeted by enemies either... Making them pretty much useless. Heck I sold some junk on a quest so some salvagers. and it pissed of Sarah.. She then didn't help me fight off the lvl 30 aliens that attacked. (I was lvl 15 at the time.) Luckily they had base defenses.. So that took the aggro..

Even then. It feels like each of the companions had like 3 or 4 different writers or programmers.. Because they would often get mad at one action.. Do something similar and they loved it...

The one good companion wa VASCO (the robot guy you get in the beginning.) As he's very nice and even offers to help you carry stuff.. AND HE DOESN'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT YOU BAD...

Sorry for that outburst.. But I'm so glad the romance companions in this game don't have affinity perks... As I was not looking forward to adventuring with any of the romance characters..

And I pretty much keep VASCO as a pack mule.. As he's not really good in combat except as a distraction.

One thing though for the Loner skill. (the one that gives you a boost to combat damage, and resistances.) I really hope they add to the effect by adding +25 carry weight for each rank of the perk when adventuring without a companion.. Totally +100 carry weight for rank 4... As even VASCO get's a bit annoying after a while too.. (Mostly just for sneaking, blocking hallways, and for the background noise he makes.) But nowhere near as bad as any human companions...

Also one last rant... I really wish there was sentient alien species in this game.... Maybe there is in the main quest. (Only done a few mission there.) But I'm pretty sure there isn't... Why make a Sci-fi game.. But have no intelligent aliens.. Heck even if they looked human but were alien would of been welcomed.. (But prefer it like all the different races in Mass Effect.)

Ahh anyways. that is my rant.... In short.. KInda dissapointed in this game.

Two words. Busy work.
Designed to waste the player's time setting up.
This seems to be their overall idea for the game's life expectancy of ten years.

There is a secret the game doesnt tell you...

Your character has unlimited carry weight. You can't fast travel while encumbered, and you will run out of O2 very quickly, but the periodic damage from Co2 can't kill you, only drop your hp to 10%. Encumberance does not lower your normal running speed.

You can run normally to your ship with 9999999999 kilotons of stuff and then travel normally to any planet, station or outpost.

If you're encumbered but not too much, you can use the personal atmosphere power for unlimited O2, so you will be able to sprint.

not really considering you can dramatically increase your carry weight capacity in the settings

I didn’t even do that. Perks, plus added extra cargo to my ship solved it for me. I can carry 265 I believe. Ship hull is around 5300. Also, I don’t pick up everything. Just what I need or things of value. Carry capacity isn’t a problem I run into.

Yeah I did notice that.. It is quite nice.. (Except when running back to my ship from over 1000 meters.) But at that point I know that if I'm far away, just don't pick up everything.. Which torture the loot goblin in me. :P

(I haven't gotten that power yet unfortunately.)

But yeah, just not my cup of tea.. right now at least... Maybe it will be the game of the century in 10 years like you said... But for now I'll just play some Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls Online to scratch that itch... (But also kinda invested in the story... So might just speedrun that part.)

Do you mean PC settings of the game files? If so I am playing on Xbox One.. Using Game Pass... So if I even use a mod it will disable all Achievements..

Which kinda sucks.. Because mods fix/improve everything.

Or do you mean an in-game setting? If so I'd restart my entire run and enable unlimited storage space... (Still doesn't fix the Outposts Cargo Link stuff.. But I'll take what I can get.)

I use the Darkstar mod, problem solved.

This, this right here is my bugbear about outposts.

Yeah those containers at the outposts get full fast! Now nothing gets moved around from other cargo links because it's all clogged up.

I suppose it's realistic though, if your extractors are constantly pumping out resources, they have to go somewhere.

In fallout 4 we are kind of spoiled with infinite workbench storage.
outpost building needs to go along with the rest of the gameplay and the role u choose to play or u just missing the point at all. its very easy if u doing it right
basically u dont even need all the mats u just need to make it work in a way that it helps
its easier to farm only what u need than searching it in the containers.

difficulty settings, in game. Can be changed any time (no need to start a new game). You can't set carry weight to unlimited but increase the limit a lot (like over 1k).

Tbh the approach in Fo4 is very satisfying, even if its brain dead easy it does the job.

Cargo links in Starfield do work but demand a bit more effort and are less overpowered. They key is understanding that you don't need A LOT of resources and storage space, but you do need A LOT of DIFFERENT resources. The output and storage does not matter really because :

Extractors are insanely fast and they always produce stuff. 1 basic extractor for each resource will cover all your needs.

You only need to make sure that each resource makes it to the cargo link trip and have a few storage containers at the final outpost. You will end with a base with a large amount of different resources, perfect for crafting. As you use the resources, they will refill automatically, faster than you use them.
