That you most likely didn't watch yourself
Judging by the subsection its a 10 minute talk on most quests in the game with some uninformative talking points.
My method to evaluate such unwatchable videos : i randomely click somewhere and listen to the guy a few seconds. If what I hear is ♥♥♥♥, it's generally safe to assume the rest is as well.
3:23:39 "we already talked about how the progression system discourages investment in combat perks" -> nonsense
Yet an other video from last year that is surfing on the anti bethesda game expert youtuber trend after Asmongold made a hit with his videos
Not watched it all yet. There was no design document. I've posted before regarding the number of companies involved and that it felt almost like an asset flip. Well this is why.
Well I almost got in to developing games but the company that was interested in publishing went bust and after some thought I realised writing business software was a more stable option. That was 40 years ago aged 16. I became lead developer when working in teams before starting my own software company aged 21.
I'd say I may have an idea
You worked on Starfield and had internal insight ?

Right so you have no idea what you're talking about
As a professional software developer for 40 years, maybe a little. But don't listen to me, listen to Emil
Emil is indeed more qualified than you are to talk about that particular game made by BGS
Especially about the writing part.
Good thing you almost got into developing games. You almost had a shot at sounding relevant on a steam forum, unfortunately you did not take it
No sh*t Sherlock
Relevant? Everyone has an opinion. The only difference is that I've backed my opinion up with facts
What opinion and what facts ? You have shared a 8 hours video that you didnt even watch and that video is a pile of nonsense and random half baked opinions from early 2023.
You're trying to sound insightful by mentioning your experience with software development, as if it validates you throwing shade at BGS writers and their methods.
That misrepresented quote has been discussed before. As someone who's been in development, surely you wouldn't want your entire project and all your teams slandered by a quote taken out of context.
The director was responsible for the overall game vision, and unless they're a complete egotist (which I suppose they could be, no-one would really know) they're doing that in consultation. They started with an overarching design document, but discarded it as the teams scale and games scale grew, as it was continually out of date. And finally, they did have design documents across the teams.
So while it might be true that they didn't have "one design document to rule them all", it is a gross mischaracterisation to try and frame it as though there was no documentation and everything was done by the seat of their pants. Because it wasn't.
And if that is a core element of the video? You shouldn't waste your time.
Nope. I was voicing my opinion based on my experience developing software in reply to yourself -
