RAM hungry
I have a good PC, but it's the first time a game is eating up my entire RAM, 32 GB, after visiting 5 or 6 star systems, RAM was 96% full steady, gladly the performances did not really suffered.

Still, I have the impression the game does not a proper job in liberating resources when leaving an area.

I'm just asking around for those who look at their system's consumption if they noticed the same behaviour, mostly from those with 64 Gb and up, and if so, I won't bother in adding RAM.

Thanks in advance.

PS: No need to tell me how to optimise, freeing up resources and all this, I'm very comfortable with the subject already.

If the game still performs well why the concern?

I've got 32gb and have never had an issue, don't monitor usage because it's not needed.

What are you using to track memory and are you sure it isn't part of the issue?

FYI, Windows keeps tracking your system's performances constantly already, for the last 60 seconds, and that's what I am using, it does not eat up your resources.

I started playing Friday and had a CTD exiting a store in New Atlantis, within my first 2 hours of gameplay, unknown reason (I suspect Steam Overlay which I used to read the FPS, and deactivated after that incident), and all is stable since (15 hours so far), but yeah, I keep an eye how the game reacts now, and I noticed how this game eats up your RAM and it looks like it's not optimised as most sw and games usually do.

What I anticipate, even with more memory, this may end up the same, I'm just looking for confirmations from other players.

Thanks for your input, but it's not what I asked for.

Good is not enough. Excellent is what you need from a PC. If you really think your PC is just Good, it needs upgraded. IMO =p

Definitely a problem on your end. I can run the creation KIT and Starfield at the Same time and not go over 32GB of RAM

32gb here too and the game runs just fine.

Interesting. So you were having issues after all. So I'm being picky but that isn't what you stated in the OP.

So if I'm off is it my issue?

Anyway, I use GeForce Overlay and have since I started and still no issues.

Windows will also attempt to make use of available RAM. It tends to pre-load things that you use a lot. Will it do that for game data though? No clue.

It would be interesting to see just WHAT was using up all that ram. :D

I also have 32gb ram, and have never had a ram related crash.

People, you don't read, as always, or you read what you want to comprehend.

Had 1 CTD within my first 2 hours, may be for an unknown reason, but surely not for a RAM reason, the next 13 hours had no issue. HeyYou, usually Windows does not run this pre-load feature for games, it's even deactivated on my system, what's common though, is the shaders cache run by nVidia or AMD to speed up the loading, that one is useful in most cases.

It’s after this first CTD I started to check the monitoring. 510Deshawn, your case does not count, making or modifying in CK, saving your ESM, run the game to see the changes, exiting the game to head back in CK, rerun the game...that’s not playing intensively for about 6 hours non-stop as I did earlier, it takes time to fill up the RAM, you need to travel in a lot of places, and explore everything. Anyway, in few weeks, I’ll be doing the same as you hopefully, bought the game mostly for modding myself. 2500 hours+ in Skyrim SE, surely 1500 of which went through modifying, I just love that ♥♥♥♥♥, CK is the game for me.

As for assuming my system is dated...it’s about 6 months old, top of the line, customized with proven stable bits and pieces, way above the recommended specs, above any specs in any actual game, and so far, I’m very satisfied with it.

Thank you for those confirming it runs smoothly on their 32Gb of RAM, I wished someone with more memory could have pointed out if the game would fill it up anyway (I suspect it will), which is my original request, I did not post here for concerns, but if I should consider adding memory, or not...hell, a game will usually look for more VRAM, not the other way around, but it seems Starfield has a peculiar way to do things, and it seems to work just fine after all.

Closing with Veer’s answer, the first to simply answer my question. As for the haters Veer...well, they are not all wrong on all the line, but I understand your point, it’s getting ridiculous.

So far as I am concerned, there is just no such thing as "Too much RAM"..... You are likely running DDR5 though, so, not quite as cheap to upgrade as DDR4 these days.
