There is no better time to try a game you may or may not like than during a sale.
Well you are in luck because the best way IMO to play this game is slow and methodically. Looking at everything, reading everything and seeing where it leads.
If you play it fast one time, then start again in slow mode you see everything you missed the first time. I bet you will find that you will be unable to limit play time to the low numbers you posted.
Using assmon never played the game new profile stinks of known troll who has multiple accounts
i sort of agree on that ,i payed full price its not a bad game , i hope the creations kit keeps producing more content for it ,after 10 runs of ng+ it get stale a little
The story is bare bones and borderline boring until you either start doing faction missions or get far enough in where you get space magic. Going to explore 1 out of 1,000 boring slightly RNG planets to another isn't where the focus should be but that's where Starfield and co, seem to think it is.
Events and missions are where interesting stuff happen. Grav jumping to a new area can have random encounters trigger which makes for interesting and dare I say, fun gameplay moments. Similar to getting stopped by a random NPC in Skyrim. Ships randomly will land on a planet and can have enemies or allies. You can even steal their ship! It's annoying to sell it and has some clunky menus to deal with just to do so.
The New Bounty Hunter missions (Yes, I'm including the BS paid one as well) are excellent experiences and give nice equipment. I still don't agree with having to pay for a single quest but that's for a different topic. Out side of the 2, current Missions on offer you get access to "elite" bounty hunting missions where they are basically the same as the Ranger Missions just not as annoying or coma inducing.
Ship combat is rough and honestly, when compared to the likes of Everspace 2, it's just down right terrible. Modding in better or more fun options will make the first bit of it more bearable to slog through until you can finally unlock more options.
Why Slog through? Because they took everything they could think of and placed them all being Skill Point Gates called Skill Challenges. Most of them are not challenging and are simply a check box required to hit before having to wait for another level to do it all again.
Instead of being able to increase the skill with ONLY usage, you hit a wall and need to spend a Skill Point.
To that end, Leveling in this game is downright terribly slow. Any and every item that gives EXP for X amount of time are often just meh. A lot of quests and missions give small amounts of Exp to the point where you just want to increase everything 2x or 5x to get the ball rolling already. I believe the main factor for leveling being slow is because they want you to not outpace the game's content before hitting New Game Plus. They have paced everything for you going through multiple NG+'s.
Companion characters are a great addition if they weren't all sticks in the mud. Any character you fancy will more often than not, require you to be a Non-hoarder and Non-StickyFingers type of person. Ignoring that they'll help you and add random points to some conversations you'll have but only if they're close enough when you start it.
Starfield is hardly the Fallout in space we all thought it would be and it seems very clear that Ground Combat is Bethesda's Strength here. Even if you reach a point where the space combat is enjoyable for you, the ground combat is just better all around.
