(Starfield Update) It is obvious (Bethesda)
I want to talk about the following video and what becomes apparent therein ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ObHRMHtTMY&t=0s

From my point of view, most of what comes with the update is already available via mods. The things that this doesn't affect are things that we've had in games for years. So in other words, more than self-evident. One wonders a little whether Bethesda has been living under a rock for the last few years and what the reason for this is.

Well, I tried to imagine how things have worked at Bethesda for all these years ...

Bethesda was once a very ambitious and passionate studio that created fantastic RPGs that continue to fascinate gamers to this day. They even developed their own in-house engine that is much more modder-friendly than most of the others that existed. In doing so, the community expanded Bethesda's games with endless content and continues to do so to this day with unbroken fascination for them.

But that's exactly where the problems with Bethesda begin in my opinion. You can say that Bethesda has handed over the most important work of all to the community, namely the fine-tuning and the fight against bugs. For years it has been the modders, the community that has repaired Bethesda games and contributed the most common QoL functions with mods. You would think that Bethesda learned from these mods and introduced them into new titles. But for years they didn't do exactly that and left this work to the modding community. You could say they rested on their laurels, especially after Skyrim.

For me personally, Fallout4 reached the point where I said to myself, a new engine is needed now, it won't work like this anymore. The loading screens, especially with mods like "Beantown Interior", were almost unbearable. Nevertheless, FO4 was a great game for me that was really fun. I know that some people see it differently and that's ok too. The point is, I think most people would agree when I say it was time for a new foundation for Bethesda games, a new engine was needed. But that wasn't what Bethesda thought, they thought they could easily crank out 2 more titles with this engine. The fatal thing about it is that you can't simply repair Fallout76 completely with mods and I think most people know the result.

Now we come to Starfield, the title in which, in my personal opinion, Bethesda has completely given up on itself. With loveless worlds, loveless characters, loveless character progression and loveless quests. I have to say, as I write this, I'm almost in tears thinking about the past and future Bethesda titles. I think if you've seen Starfield, experienced the last few months and now see this video, then it's clear to you that Bethesda only delivers what is absolutely necessary and lets the community do the rest as usual. Now they even act as if it was their own work, by simply copy past mod content into this update.

For me, the last point in particular leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I wonder what else can be expected in the future from this once great studio that I loved back then. Personally, I don't think there's much more to come, but ridiculously, there's still a small glimmer of hope. But it's kept alive more by fan projects like "Fallout London" and "Skywind" or "Skyblivion" than by Bethesda and their announced titles themselves.

At this point I would like to express my undying thanks to the modding community, without which the Btehesda games would now be practically worthless for me personally. In this context, I also have to strongly condemn Bethesda's attempts to highjack or destroy the community modding environment itself. First with Skyrim and now with Fallout and destroying thousands of players' modding set-up just because of this series was just an extremely disgusting move. Of course, FalloutLondon also suffered as a result. This is just a shame and a shows the lack of respect for the community wich made them so big.

Finally, I would like to thank the community and their support again. Because without them no one would have made it, not even Bethesda. It's a shame that Bethesda seems to have forgotten this :_(

The game is proving to be more of a cash grab as time goes by. :2017tp:

I totally agree, for me it was like that right from the Start Field :-/

Beth originally licensed the gamebryo engine, starting with Morrowind. They later bought the rights to it, and game or two later, renamed it 'creation engine'. It wasn't really developed 'in house', so to speak, though, I would expect that very little of the original Gamebryo engine is left. :D

But, beth does seem to have lost their passion for the games they make. To me, Starfield is quite bland in characters, and the galaxy in general. They seem to have been trying to hard not to offend anyone.... and are bending over backwards to make sure that they are 'inclusive', and 'diverse'...... I don't see those latter two contributing anything to making the game better.... Just more bland.

Oh well. Mods. Mods will fix it. :D

You and some others don't have the game so your point is irrelevant.
Also imo having these things already in game is better than any mod, and most mods for this game at least for me isn't easy to get them to work.
For most mods you have to use other mods to get the mod you want to work, and even if you follow the directions exactly most of the mods just don't work and some don't seem to work together.
So I would take actual in game features even if added later than any mod that may or may not work.

Well the first part adds to what i said and makes the picture actually even worse. But i thank you anyways for clearing this up. I agree with you, for me Starfield has absolutely proven that they lost their passion. I think mods can make it at leat less worse xD

I can't emphasize enough how tired I am of hearing this illogical sentence, "You don't have the game, so your opinion is worthless." Please start using your own brain instead of just parroting other people's oneliners.

Wow, you used the only thing in my text that makes me seem weak in your eyes to attack me and without me doing anything bad to you. Hmm, I think there's a term for people like you, but I just can't think of it at the moment ... well, whatever :-/

Yup. At face value it's shocking that Bethesda is moving forward with ES6 and Fallout 5 on the Creation Engine, but ultimately it's not surprising. They'll continue to wring as much cash out of that old decrepit engine as they possibly can.

Elder Scrolls 6 is going to look HILARIOUSLY dated by the time it releases. By the time Fallout 5 releases, Bethesda will have officially downgraded to AA status as a studio.

Not everybody is scared of reading posts longer than 144 bytes. Sometimes fleshed out thoughts stop an onslaught of questions requesting what the writer meant.

That's sadly the norm here.
I agree with your view of Bethesda and Starfield.
Fallout 4 was most likely their last great title.

Microsoft probably will close them or minimizes the team to create mobile games like Fallout Shelter.
Especially with the 4 Bethesda studio closures the future looks bleak.

More mobile gaming means more sign-ups, more tracking of human activity, and more information. This fits with what is happening with AI right now and why Musk signed this lawsuit. I mean, Microsoft has a big role to play in this and information will soon be the most important thing ... it already is ;-)
