Patience, young Padawan. We would rather see it appear when it is well developed rather than rushed. It will be done when it is done.
I currently still have some gripes with the exploration in this game (I don't like how broken up as it is now and I understand the plethora of arguments against that) but I think it will eventually be addressed.
Fair assessment.
It's quite refreshing to see someone have issues with the game, yet not paint it out to be the worst game produced in the last 15 years, and without a single redeeming quality.
The food and drink need work. I like that food keeps its original buffs in addition to fed. Ditto for drinks and Hydrated. But all food keeping you fed for a flat 30 minutes is kinda...dumb. Some meals are larger than others; we know this based on the ridiculous amount of time and effort some poor artists spent ensuring we noticed.
Larger meals should keep me Fed for twice as long. Water should keep us Hydrated for longer than teas and coffees.
Nice ideas, but Food and Drink were not implemented very well. Fortunately, this is a groundwork mod makers can build on. It won't be enough for the hardcore survival sim players (they will script their own system) but with a lot of tweaks, this will work for me, and probably a lot of other folks.
For the longest time I felt the way you did about Exploration.
Then I went back and played two games: Skyrim (with tons of mods), and Elite: Dangerous. For a while in Skyrim I was having fun discovering new places. But by 30 hours in, I was fast traveling to the closest discovered point almost every quest; I simply could not be bothered to retread all that ground.
And Elite? Sure its pretty. And it has an AMAZING flight model (that you will only ever use in combat). But getting anywhere is a recipe for tedium and wasted time. I swear 70% or more of the game is literally spectator mode. You just watch the planets fly by as you Cruise through a system, thinking of all the fun you could be having by doing more exciting things, like playing games that don't waste your time, or watching grass grow.
As an adult with numerous responsibilities, Starfield's "bite size" exploration chunks, are really nice for me. REALLY nice. I find it a good mix of exploring and convenience and I need that from games.
Or doesn't that apply when the news is good?
Yep here he is!
I think this is spot on and why over time the fast travel will be viewed as more of a good thing than a bad. I've played those games and Star Citizen as well and the tedium of running to ship, starting everything up, flying down in atmosphere and landing, etc etc ... is going to wear thin for a lot of people. I think Todd & friends see this and said "we'll just offer a way to bypass that" but may have gone a little too far towards making that appear the default travel method (fast travel, I mean) rather than offering it up as an optional convenience.
