owning a store?
If there is one thing I personally think this game needs desperately it the ability to open your own storefront. I spend so much time running around with massive amounts in my cargo hold and no store with any credits to buy it from me. I think like a outpost you should be able to open and staff your own store front to dump all your excess cargo into. Does anyone know of a mod or a in game trick that allow you to do something like this?

That's a good point and one that I'm almost certain will be made as a mod once the Creation Kit is released by Bethesda. For example we had those type of mods in Skyrim SE. My best guess as to when the Creation Kit should be released would be sometime around March/April based on the average amount of time Bethesda has released the Kit for other BGS titles after a games initial release.

Best way I have found to fix this is stop picking up crap.
why pick up a 12kg suit that only sells less than 1000, creds.
if you need cash, limit yourself to a minimum of 1000 creds per kg. you get more action between shop runs.

I now don't even do that, I only pickup nice blue, purple or legendary stuff, and even then, ignore the useless items. sell 4-5 nice weapons and you have enough to buy all the ammo from the vendor.

I only pick up weapons. Obviously, you can use personal atmosphere and sprint when overloaded, but selling the stuff can become tedious. I wish there was a UC weapon hand in service so you can fill your cargo hold with looted weapons and redeem them at a UC base automatically for a credit reward. Taking weapons off the streets so to speak.

You have a point in that. Over time, money really is not the main issue any more. Once you hit a million, collecting every kind of items does not make any sense in terms of gameplay.

Still, i think that reducing the amount of stuff laying around is crucial to keep the game working smoothly. By picking up and selling stuff you reduce the amount of saved form-ids / saved stuff on each indidual spot that seem to hamper long term play within one run.

So... the goal is credits and you're willing to cheat (mods)...

Why bother picking anything up and just use console commands to give yourself credits. It's the same result, you don't want to play the game as presented.

I think the empty shack right next to Laredo Firearms in Akila City would make a great place for a shop, I'm thinking a mod would work nicely there.

Because it's more fun than typing a command in a console.

You may want to try that kind of stuff, it's called "gameplay".

That is an excellent idea but there doesn't seem to be any realistic financial system to handle it.

The game needs money sinks. For example, starships that cost tens of millions of dollars, and then you have to buy them to support a side or build your own interstellar empire.

Might be easier to just give more locations with unlimited storage (like at a base or homes you buy) and give vendors more credits. You're talking about adding a whole new feature, and half the features already in the game are half baked at best.

Would it have been nice to figure out how this "universe works" and trying to model a realistic economic system that determines what intrinsic value items have if you lived in the lore being present?

It would be great if they just lifted the shop system in Fallout 4 for our outposts.

And honestly settlement storage and linking settlements worked so much better in F4 too.

This exact thing was said of Skyrim. This exact thing was said of Fallout 4 (where you could indeed set up stores). And even though you can invest in a new business venture, once again people are demanding it of Starfield.

History. Repeating itself.

Just wait for the mods for auxiliary stuff like that. Heck, mods will probably get you working toilets in your outposts too, which a lot of people seem to desperately need.

Same was said regarding Skyrim and then we had a few Economy overhaul mods come out. All is doable.

Especially Lin & Heller. They've been holding it in for months now.
