Starter Outpost - my preference
Hey everyone,

I have been looking into which moon is actually the best for the first outpost. After comparing both Bessel III-b and Adraphon, I still believe Andraphon is still the better choice. Especially if you are a beginner player.

Here's a video of my reasons. Let me know if you agree or disagree. Perhaps I missed something.

For my first outpost, I look for low gravity, temperate planet with He3, Fe or Al. Since that's also my resource hub, I prefer low level and no aggressive fauna. Looks like Andraphon meets those requirements very well.

I have no idea how you come to the conclusion that Andraphon is better. Everything you mentioned is incredibly minor and doesn't even make up for not having Nickel.

Nickel is not a concern for the 1st base. Its easy enough to find Nickel on another planet in the same system and import it.

first planet for an outpost? One that has a small island surrounded by water, in a level 75 system.

I did that on a freshly made character, not one that had passed through Unity.
Found a few Advanced weapons while i was out there, and a Refined space suit, and by the time i was level 20, i had a full set of advanced weapons, including an explosive Va'ruun Rifle....

The Ship Combat can be summed up with "Run Away!", but the ground combat is actually fun. Even more so when you get a number of enemies 5x your level gunning for you :steammocking:
It's what "Very Hard" should have been...

I'll have at least 1 outpost on a high level planet like that, but not my resource hub. I did that once and every time I visited it, there were repairs to be made. Turrets and robots get damaged and killed as well. Building the outpost on an island sounds interesting. Does the water act as a wall to keep out invaders?
What about Codos /Cheyenne? i think that's a nice moon. rotates fast, looks good, every some minutes sunset/sunrise and it has some of the resources for delivery flights , Al, Ar, Fe ...

I've never seen a single attack on my outposts since building them on water
I don't tend to leave crew at these outposts though, but i do have resource extractors, turrets and rarely, robots. None have ever been damaged or destroyed.

The one in my NG playthrough has a number of resource extractors, along with all my items in containers, boxes and crates. Whole containers of Contraband etc..
It's never been attacked.

The only caveat, is finding an ocean island with gentle sloping sides underwater. You can only go so deep or the game tells you the supports are too high...

Great idea! On which planet did you find islands like this?

My first outpost is always a coastal place near water picked entirely for a nice view to build my extra large landing pad on. Usually on Akila or Montara Luna (the moon Waggoner's Farm is on)

True the only resource at coasts is water but that's fine.

Fermi III. Archimedes II, Huygens III, Hawking I..

Archimedes has a number of planets with water, so you might get lucky on any of them.

That's an old screenshot of my outpost on Fermi III.
