When I NG+ I can't choose a background?

The new menu to change your traits and looks and ♥♥♥♥ when you NG+ is fine until i go through it and can't choose a background? no tab for it like when creating a new character? I've tried using commands to set a background and remove the previous one but that doesn't work.
Before the update i had modded through vortex, but after the update and creations came out i uninstalled the mods from vortex and just started using just creations and it was working fine until i tried to enter the unity and instead of a background tab there's a "$Preset" tab that i haven't been able to figure out how to fix? i've gone into the game folder to manually get modded files from the vortex stuff out, i've verified the game files and completely uninstalled and reinstalled.

NG+ mean you use your previous character. You can remove a trait while in the game. Try checking either a clinic, or one of those 'Enhance!' (they give you the cc).

Correct, the update does NOT allow you to change your BACKGROUND... only traits.

If you can use console commands it's as easy as:
"slm 14"

so why can't i NG+? ill go through the Starborn character creator that pops up after the enggame clip/credits, but when i hit "R" to finish and i get a pop up saying "Choose a Background" but there's no way to choose one on that screen and once that happens I can't get to any menus except the console, only way to get out that works is closing the game

No idea why your screen does not match mine. I just went thru the Unity like minutes ago.(1)

There is NO background option after going thru the Unity. Nor did any update/patch notes mention changing your "background"

(1) - I have a bunch of save files, so I just loaded up one saved in the Unity so I could quickly go thru

this is the "$Preset" tab that was there from a former mod, but i've deleted all old mods from before the june update, gone through the game files to delete anything connected to sfse, but even after completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game that tab is still there and im not sure how to get rid of it?

Ugh, that sucks, sorry... I hope I am wrong, but it has been my experience (with both Starfield and Fallout 4) that once you've installed certain mods, then played and saved your game. Whether you remove the mod or not; there are still changes in your save file that cannot be fixed.

My only suggestion is to see if the mod in question WAS updated. If so it's def worth trying the updated version of the mod to see if it fixed your current issue.
