is the Dream Home purchasable later if you don't take the trait initially?
wondering if I wasted a trait grabbing that ...

There are several apartments you can buy. There is at least one you get as a reward.

thanks but no I meant that specific house - is it purchasable? I suspect it isn't but just confirming

It isn't but the trait is still a waste, plus it burdens you with a mortgage.

I've never used it, but I thought Mum + Dad gave you nice prezzies now and again?

different trait - Dream Home gives you a house on Nesoi at the start of the game (which is nice looking but has no features except a cooking station); I'll be honest and say I'm feeling a little ripped-off by this trait, the house is not terribly useful.

Kid Stuff gives you living parents who you can visit in-game and (according to the wiki) the unique items Gran-Gran's Spacesuit and Helmet - I haven't tried this one either, but it sounds like a better choice tbh

In the vanilla game, the dream home is only available if you choose the trait. However, it would be a relatively easy matter to make an adjustment in the creation kit to make the home available without the trait.

The dream home is nice, but ... its hard to justify flying back to a home or outpost over and over and over when you have a ship that does all that and more with you at all times. You are spending a trait (honestly, not a big loss) and a lot of time and energy trying to make use of a home by visiting it repeatedly. The mortgage is trivial, and its exceedingly trivial if you do this on a NG+ where money comes in hand over fist. Also, its 'skyrim' again.. the home has a fixed floor plan that may or may not appeal to you.

Kid stuff is kinda neat, you get yet another free a class ship that you probably won't want or use, a few cool weapons, and you can visit mom and dad for RP factor (as above, visiting a location over and over is sort of annoying, but they do live in a major city so at least its a drive-by visit while doing normal game stuff as opposed to going out of your way to land there). Its not a bad trait to take once for fun, and its better as a low level/new character as the goodies you get are of some merit then.

I can see at least one mod on nexus - Dream Home Integrated - that does exactly that

this seems exactly spot-on; it's unlikely you need that third trait for anything really specific, but even with that the house isn't truly worth it.

I think it would make more sense for this trait to give you a penthouse apartment in the main city (with same mortgage setup) - though that kind of ties you to one faction a little

I haven't checked the nexus site recently for this, but I'm sure we will be inundated with player home mods soon.

if you do the Vanguard Quest, you do get a Penthouse in Atlantis as a reward + Citizenship.

The dreamhouse is nice, but after seeing the Penthouse personally....I'm not bothering with that trait anymore.

The dreamhouse is perfect for someone who like to roleplay a lot, and want to collect all the houses and do lot of decoration.

Because outside of that, aint worth it.

The parent trait is also nice. Your parents will give you your old bed to sleep on in Atlantis if you want. (You can still sleep in the lodge also), and they give you a nice gun at some point, and even a small ship you can sell for creds or for keep (up to you).

they homewhever do not show up when you get married (if you choose to) which is a shame.

But it is a nice addition. (Oh and they also give you your grand Ma armor, which is an older model of the Vanguard Armor).

You can also buy a house in Akila, and I think neon (though I havent tried). The Akila house (the big one) is rather small.

The penthouse on Atlantis is by far my favorite. Is at the Top of a building and you get one hell of a view, and is a nice reward after one hell of a good Quest. (The Vanguard Quest is my favorite by far).

And you can also build a ship and live innit by adding beds. Or an outpost. So, many options.

Forgot to add: Maybe the trait is also a good reason to send you to GalBank which can give you a few Quest to do. (Dont forget those)

Hope this help.

The dream home is a nice house. ANd you can't get it other than with the trait. It's not the only house you can get. Note that all the traits are situational and of modest utility; you can't really waste them because there's not that much better you can spend them on.

I really liked the kid's stuff trait - it gives you a past in the world you otherwise wouldn't have had any evidence of, and you get a bunch of nifty perks.

-+carry weight backpack
-Sir Livingstone's gun
-Gran's armor
-That ship your dad wins in poker, which is one of the best free ships.
-Meatloaf recipe
-numerous amusing encounters when you run into them on vacation.

Note that both the mortgage and kid's stuff gives you a bill every week. It says it's 5%, but it leaves out a very important detail: the max is 500, which is NOTHING.

as far as i know the dream house is not available for purchase later on.

i always pick the dream house, and than only decorate it with chests and crafting stations and nothing else. once i unlocked all gun/spacesuit upgrades i go to the Gallbank in new Atlantis and get rid of the dream house.

early game i find all these crafting materials but i cannot use them because i do not yet have the perks i need for all the upgrades.
later on when i have the upgrades unlocked i am generally looking for resources. the stores only have a limited supply. having a stash is really useful.

yes you pay 500 a week for the house, but money has never been a problem for me in this game and resources have, so its an easy choice.
