Ship renaming bug?
I just made my first B tier ship and wanted to rename it, yet it doesn't work and keeps old common name. What I look up it's bug that there is already 8 months???

How is it not fixed? or is there some mod that fixes it, when Bethesda can't do it?

Renaming works just fine. I suspect you're not doing it right. I know that is uncomfortable to hear but this is clearly not a systemic problem, so it is somewhere on your end.

It's the game, a quick Google search shows it.
BGS is just not what they used to be. They sold their soul to Microsoft.

It is not the game. You can fix it with a bit of research. Easy peasy.

I have played SF for nearly 1,700 hours, multiple characters, and I concur that it is a bug. One of the annoying kind which is not 100% likely to inflict itself on your particular game or even every ship you try to rename - but it is a real bug.

Happens for me with Va'ruun (Almost always) or Freestar (Rarely). Doesn't seem to affect other factions though, so i can work around it..
I've never found a fix. All you can do is sell the ship and find another.

So you telling me to go into modification of ship, pressing c and than rename option, press g for rename and than confirm is incorrect method?? What other method would be there?

That's a bummer. What I found, there is option to duplicate ship and rename the duplicate and sell the original one. But first I need to know how if it's through command console of something else

It's a known bug, stop gaslighting people.

Yup. :steamsad:
I've "wasted" much time building ships to find they have this bug. I rename the ship -before- i begin building it now; If it doesn't rename, i sell it, if it does, i can build.

EDIT: Just rename it to "A" or something. Can give it a proper name later, once you've finished building it.

Given the size of the playerbase, I wonder how common it is. Not common? That'd be my guess. Also I imagine it must be related to how the ship is obtained. It's happened to me twice out of about, lets guess, 20 captured ships that I've bothered to rename, where not immediately but after a period of time I find it has reverted back to the 'blueprint' name.

Further, rather ambiguously this update will involve "ship building", I wonder if something like this will make it into the fixes.

Yup lets blame the player cause even the rename function is messed up, 9 months after the launch...

Starfiled is one of these games where you have to do RESEARCH to do something as simple as change the name of the damn ship xD

Worst thing is that new forum users are greeted by lies.
Well at least they will know what they are dealing with here xD

No lies.
Renaming a ship works. If the OP needs help with that, they'll get it.
There is a rare bug where a previously renamed ship will return to its blueprint name, but it's hardly a game breaker. And there's no need to do research to work out how to rename a ship, the function is there in the shipbuilder.

But I don't need to tell you two that, do I, because you've both played the game in depth, right?

That can happen too, but i believe they are separate bugs. You can get one or the other, or if your unlucky, suffer with both...

I had a "Sloop", that i named something, it reverted back to "Sloop" later on, then spent the rest of the game as "Ecliptic Combat AO1". I could rename it, but it would revert to that "AO1" name whenever i quit and reloaded the next day...

I've never had it revert the actual build of the ship, but i did have it crash whenever i edited the Frontier. (Due to having items in the captains locker when modifying it, with a full cargo hold)
