I just play on very hard, and call it a day. Of course, in those level 75 systems, even the fauna are DEADLY with that combination. :D
I am just not seeing that.
I am set for very hard made and have played it that way since NG+1 and I only POI farm in level 75 systems. The drops are better for my NG+4 character doing the same.
Thank you for the reply though, I thought I was to see better version of legendaries and an increased chance to get them; but just the opposite is happening. Then I have been doing a lot of ship captures as the highest frequency of Mark III ships like Claymore III and Prophesy III are found in serpentis system, which is level 55. Legendaries drop but crap legendaries that are not advanced or useful. My NG+4 character is seeing advanced legendaries; but useless stuff like a grendel, which nobody should ever use as it's a waste of ammo and you will die before doing enough damage.
In NG+3 I got a legenrady Inflictor that was really nice, seems that's a once only thing in this game.
So,
10% chance a legendary will drop, 20% of an epic, 70% chance of a rare.
Then a 33% chance it will be a gun, 52% chance of armor, 15% chance a melee weapon. Numbers approximate.
You can do a search and multiple reddit posts about it. One player did 100 kills on the same level 98 elite pirate. Another did 2,215 skills on legendary spacers. The actual % may be slightly different, but it is close to the results achieved by the reddit posts.
That, and I think the experience is different for everyone. I am level 230 something, playing on very hard, and farming legionaries in level 75 systems, and just about ALL of my equipment is gold. I have one weapon (out of 5 I carry) that isn't, but, for the life of me, I can't recall which one it is at the moment. :)

Yep. I believe that those are the multipliers on the base 10% chance. I haven't found any multipliers for armor vs gun vs melee or for the types of perks, but they could be there and I'm just missing them. There are also definite armor/gun/melee lists for each of the main NPC's, i.e. spacers, Va'ruun zealots, and pirates which affect the chance of getting a particular armor or weapon type, but I haven't found specific percentages. That stuff is buried somewhere in the files and will likely need more patience than I have to find them.
My level 91 character, which has not completed any of the main story (so obv no NG+) but plays on Very Hard is getting plenty of legendary drops. So much so that I have multiple chests in my outpost stuffed with legendary gear.
I am just not seeing it on my level 230 NG+5 very hard mode character.
Here is an example of what I see drop: (go to timestamp 24m24s it appears the forum iisn't reading the timestamp marker)

The link is to a part of a video where I look through the list of items I have cleaned out of my ships cargo and dumped in the lodge abysal storage for data collection and review, clearly I get pushed a lot of trash and legendaries that are just nothing burgers.
It doesn't matter anymore, made a new character and and using item codes to create the armor set and stats I want to work with , same with weapons. Going to play like this until I am done then move on to another game. This has been fun; but I am encountering bugs and lousy loot now that have diminished it all to almost not wanting to login and play anymore. Which I played a lot of hours and enjoyed the game very much, just not so much anymore now that the loot is just really disappointing now.
