Contraband
Hi, can someone tell me if I sell my contraband to The Den, do they give me full price? I tried to sell some and it was selling at 1/8 of the price of what it is worth.

The den always seems low. Try the Red MIle bartender.

Thanks, so in fact it never is the same price, whats the benifit of even picking up contraband, seems pointless

Well it does fetch some credits. I think the values increase as you level certain skills.

But yes, it's better in my opinion to pick up the weapons and sell them.

Contraband can be a hassle to deal with, it almost seems like an after thought to allow players to role play as a pirate. The same can be said for ships, docking to take them over is definitely not the best way to get credits. BGS made somethings to easy to do which means it would be easier to break the economy. As a result they tried to balance things by making things like ship and contraband worth much less then they logically would be in the universe they created.
The only things that makes it a little better is investing in a few of the skill perks like commerce to raise the credits you can get and deception to make moving contraband around easier.

Nothing sells for full value and the prices are the same everywhere.

Contraband is usually worth a fair bit but only about the same as a decent weapon.
If you're passing some just grab it and make a quick trip to the Den/Red Mile/The Key afterwards to ditch it with some other loot. It's no great hassle since nobody has enough creds and you'll likely want to visit several places anyway after a good haul.

I wouldn't bother getting into smuggling. High risk low reward.

There are a couple of exceptions. Vladimir and Noel pay more for the stuff they buy than other merchants do.

I'm going to do a mod where TA merchants pay full price for contraband, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I usually sell it at the Trade Authority vendors. With the shielded cargo bays and electronic module that makes contraband harder to detect, you have a good chance of avoiding detection in civilized systems.

I take it that you have shielding on your ship to take it to your dream home?

Thanks to everyone that responded, I now have gained more insight on the subject.

If I recall correctly the Dream Home isn't on a world you get scanned at.

But onestly contraband isn't worth the bother. I just jettison it. I get tons of guns/spacesuits/helmets/packs that are all worth just as much if not more credits with none of the hassle and more spots to sell it.
