FormID bug 'fix' only crashes game?
*SOLVED*

After STARFIELD UPDATE 1.9.67 allegedly fixed the FormID bug, I started up game again today, after 2 months or so, full of hope, but the game exits almost immediately after ca. 10 seconds of loading a savegame. :( ANY savegame. They said fix would clean up a savegame at startup; instead game just crashes.

If your game is crashing upon load, it is something other than the FormID issue. Were you using any mods - specifically SFSE or any mods that require it? Those would need to be updated to work with the current game version (1.9.67).

Also, does the CTD happen with all saves, or only your most recent ones? Often, rolling back to a prior save will fix issues (provided you have one, and it is one that loads).

There is also this, which might be useful:

Good luck!

All mods are updated, as well as SFSE and address library (game won't even start with outdated SFSE, btw). Even with SFSE disabled, game will still crash upon loading a savegame -- so it's definitely not SFSE (or mods depending on it) related. And ESM mods do not typically have the potential to crash your game.

All saves, yes. Also, I did those helpdesk steps you linked; but, naturally, that made no difference. Game always crashes in the same way, btw:

You most likely have an outdated mod installed, in spite of your efforts to avoid that. Failing that, you could in theory have outdated or broken game files, so it's probably worth verifying cache or reinstalling.

I would fix this ^ before assuming your saves are done, but even so:

There can be no assumption a retroactive save file fix will work with modded games. It's a gamble.

I hope your problem is just broken game files and/or outdated mods and that it works out for you.

Yes to what CMDR Benny posted. Let us know how things go, Alyx. And again, good luck!

I temporarily disabled all ESM mods; still crashes. I will continue down the line of disabling individual .dll files. :steamsad: Then there's plugins.txt mod, but that reportedly still works.

N.B. I also disabled all .dll files in SFSE\plugins\ folder. With all ESM and external .dll files disabled, I fee; a panic coming on.

Disabling mods will not necessarily remove the mod data from the save file. If Starfield saves work the same as in previous Bethesda games, you would need to roll back to a save made prior to the mod(s) having been installed. An exception would be purely graphical replacers (texture/meshes) or those mods having only .swf files.

For more information regarding this (or, at least, what we can speculate as to being the current situation), see:

That was my thought as well.

If a mod places an item in the save that is not vanilla, could that be the issue?

I get that. But all these savegames were working 'fine' several month ago (prior to me waiting for the formid fix). 'Fine' as in: I could do 2 space battles or so, before the game would crash, as I had run out of FormIDs, but at least they would load.

Yes, tkwoods - that definitely could be an issue, as covered in my most recent post.

Probably a good idea to do as HeyYou posted - just to check.

I willl try. But the whole point of me waiting for the FormID fix, is to NOT lose all my ships. If I start a new game, will it wipe all my savegames?

The idea here is to see if the issue is with the game, or your saves. It's just a test.

Also, Alyx, troubleshooting for Starfield is still in its early stages, so we are basically feeling our way through the dark, now - and trying things that have worked for other games or have had some success so far in Starfield. But we will all do our best to help.
