5,800 players currently in game
that is shockingly low. I think this game may permanently damage Bethesda's reputation. have they made any statements apologizing for this game yet?

I am curious about those numbers, what are normal numbers, and how to decide what the normal numbers would be. For example, since today is Wednesday middle of the work week is that kind of stuff figured into how many players are on. I mean on the weekends would that number not be higher. Genuine curiosity of how these numbers are tallied. What is a normal triple A game that just launched numbers suppose to be?

you can use this website to look at the most played games on steam in real time. you can click on a game and see the games player count measured in more detail https://steamdb.info/charts/
currently fallout 4 has 16,000 and skyrim special edition has 23,000. starfield should have much more than both games.

It's a single player game with no new content, been out for a length of time that most completed what they wanted to do without new content, and, in addition, it has a lot of competition from other games that people also want to play.

I mean how many times can you keep completing the same game?

Most other single player games follow this trend even highly rated like Resident Evil 4:

And yes it's only Steam players not ALL players.

AND who really cares.

The peak 7 days ago was 7513 today was 7472. Wednesday is always lower peak than the rest of the week.

Bethesda has the data they need to justify the success of the game, the only thing that matters is if they did what they set out to do. I think they did. They built a foundation to build on for the future.

Only apology needed is for the low effort opening post.

Just use SteamDB.
Here for example, you can see, for Starfield, that the peak number of concurrent players is lower on wednesday which is, as you say, in the middle of the work week.

https://steamdb.info/app/1716740/charts/#1m

Also, don't take the "X amount of players currently" threads too seriously. They almost never take points that are comparable, just using whatever they're seeing at the moment.
You get a better idea of how a game is going by taking the daily peak number and looking at trends.

As for what would constitue a good number of players for Starfield... given the ambitions that were put on this game, something higher than the old Bethesda games would be a start. The game isn't dying, but it's underperforming.

Wrong on both counts. They only sold maybe 4 million copies, the rest was Game Pass.

I've not seen anyone prove they lied about anything. But keep playing the victim.
