Decorating ship habs and crew numbers question.
Does anyone know if by adding beds to the habs having the effect of increasing crew numbers? Or are crew numbers locked to habs?

Control Stations (and your actual Command Perks) regulate crew Number (I BELIEVE) as well as some other things (they will say in shipbuilding). Habs should only count towards Passenger slots.

Decor Beds should have no effect on either. (crew or passenger)

Ship Command Rank 4 gives you 8 crew members. If that's what you are asking.

I don't think that you are allowed more than 8.

I was thinking were you able to increase your crew size by adding beds using the decorate function as it seemed that when you add a hab that gives you two crew slots, they have two beds in that hab.

Interesting, there is a mod that does this, ie: you add beds using the decorator and it increases your crew size.

The habs have fixed crew/passenger slots. The empty variants they added with decorating have the same slots. Adding beds doesn't change that number

Was about to tell you that. I was just browsing Nexus and saw a mod exactly doing that.

I tried to do a empty hab on my Conqueror. It put a door at every point. With no way to remove them. So I gave up and went back to a prefab one. A lot happier now. Only 1 door.

I haven't tried an empty hab yet.

Prior to the update, I would buy an apartment and set up a base. Normally the Stretch apartment in Akila City. It's close to all the shops I need with the least amount of load screens. Base building required to much busy work.

After the patch, I'm experimenting with my ship being the one stop shop and base for everything. Really happy with being able to decorate the interior and adding all the bits I need. So I no longer need to add a workshop hab, I can add the required workstations in non workshop and non science habs. A really nice touch.

I never went beyond 8 crew, but there is a way to have up to 10 as described in the guide^

Sorry I think everyone has misunderstood me here. I'm trying to make a small compact class b ship that can support 4 crew. I only have 2, 2x1 habs and am wanting to bump the number from 3 to 4 in my super compact design. Hence my interest in adding a decorative bed.

All of the Viking cockpits made by Stroud-Eklund have 4 crew stations.

Yes we misunderstood since none of that is in your OP. Adding a bed will NOT bump the crew number :steamfacepalm:

Hello! If only they were as cool as the Hopetech Armstrong cockpit. The Mandalorian vibes are strong in that one.

My main complaint with Stroud-Eklund parts is the name is on most of them. A couple of other ship manufacturers do the same, but not on nearly every part.

My preferred cockpit is the Taiko Himeji command bridge now that I don't use crews at all in my NG+ games. It's compact and the cargo access and armillary are right next to you when you get out of the single command chair. It has a wide view from the seat too. With just a captain's cabin hab, my design with the Himeji bridge is really compact, light and max speed, grav jumps and fire power.

Using empty habs you can pump up your ship crew slots (e.g., Control Stations) while using them as other hab functions like bunks, workshop, med bay, etc., by adding appropriate decorations. Crew uses most decorative items just as they do the "stock" items in normal habs. I've found it a great way to maximize space usage and minimize clutter.
