Ship Customization and Interior Decoration - Do you still lose stuff?
A major issue in the game's first few months was that you couldn't actually use any of the interior decorations, storage, etc. because a single change to the ship would completely reset any the interior to default. Putting gear on in lockers or on mannequins, or placing stuff around the ship, meant that you would risk getting it all put into your storage locker any time you modified the ship in any way, or possibly even risk it getting deleted altogether.

So, what's the current status - especially with the new update? Is it safe to put stuff in storage on your ship at least? What happens to it now when you customize your ship?

In my Beta testing, I only used chests and I put them in my cockpit and I've also had them in the main hab (different ships/saves) and there were no issues when I would capture and claim a new ship (planetary or in space). Once I swapped back to my main ship, all the stuff was still there.

Give me a sec and I'll test out swapping the cockpit.. you know for science.

I placed a mannequin w/three legendary pieces and my normal stuff in the chest. Both were in the cockpit.

Then I replaced the cockpit and saved my ship build

The mannequin pieces came back to MY inventory. The chest inventory went into the ship cargo hold

I kind of wish the game would attempt to replace items back in the same spot when you replaced a piece like that.

Especially for pieces like cockpits, and habitats, especially now that they can be empty.

Yeah... I tried to, um... "manipulate" that, given that the CF Ghost has this awesome 1x1 storeroom with 20+ drinks and close to 15 food items. <- gives you a great Extreme survival start...

My first ship was a Ghost and I had cleaned the 1x1 out during the capture. I tried a bunch of things to get the items back, I went to Hopetown, saved, exited and restarted... no matter what I did, the 1x1 always came in without the food & drink.

I believe that's because the version you're spawning in by default is like that. The instance you encountered first had the food and other amenities, but that instance was modified from the default.

Thank you so much. It's great to know that at least some of the rooms in my ship can be useful now!
