OVERPOWERED BUILD THREAD
Sorry for the caps...

Ive been playing since launch and Ive had my ups and downs but my question today..

Im about to start this over and give it a fresh outlook. But maybe Im lazy and havent looked hard enough but I rarely see much talk about builds on here.

My question is, if I want a very easy journey and be able to do as many things as possible, what would you say is a good starting build? I know the game has been out long enough for someone to know the ins and outs and what you should probably take over others.

Ive married Sarah, Ive done the Crimson Fleet quest, did the UC quests and progressed the main story line pretty far but I feel my outlook may have been tainted.

Im really asking for what class, what perks and what should I focus on to really have an EASY time and get to experience as much of the fun stuff as possible.

If you just wana share a link to someone who explains it well, thats fine too. Thanks for your time.

Im no stranger to Bethesda. Im feeling its gonna be a speech build.

I want less fighting(dont mind it but would rather bypass it with speech) and just a build that gives you access to more areas.

Like being a thief in elder scrolls meant doors were nothing. Im looking for the build that makes me able to do most anything within reason of the build.

Edit: also I never touched base building except the tutorial achievement. Does base building pay off in the long run really?

Basically what is Starfields "Stealth Archer" build? You know how in Skyrim, you always end up becoming one because its broken and overpowered?!

Thats what I want. A broken and overpowered build and what to take at start and what to focus on.

In my hours so far I always found the photon (?) shotgun was really overpowered. 4 shots but pretty powerful. Whats another good broken gun? I don tmean that bad, like what is the good weapons? Which ones should I look for and upgrade.

I want to be the terminator. Heck, I dont mind being evil. I was already really kind in my first (unfinished) playthrough. You always play nice first, then you come back with vengeance lol

Broken? Sorry can’t help with broken. To build a powerful stealth/speech/sniper character you need multiple advanced skills + Ryujin questline. It’s a long but very satisfying build (my build, actually).

Need stealth, persuasion (and some other skills from that tree, there is plenty), security, concealment, theft, gymnastics, weapon engineering, boost pack, rifle, sniper, marksmanship, armor pen, ballistics/particle and of course all sorts of ship-related stuff because you can’t go far with Frontier. I mean you need max out most of these skills.

Alternatively, there is a VERY EASY difficulty which may be better for you.

I don't think I can provide any unexpected suggestions, but for "easy" I choose:
Background:
Bounty Hunter - Piloting, Targeting, Boost Pack

There's other options, but IMO this is the best 'start' background. It gets you essential skills immediately with Piloting getting you one step closer to better tier ships, Targeting which makes ship combat easier, & everyone needs Boost Pack to be able to use boost packs, so it's a must have skill, getting it for free at the very beginning is a no brainer.

There are other good ones, for sure (Cyber Runner is basically "thief", so it gets you Stealth, Lockpicking & Pick Pocket immediately if that is your thing), but Bounty Hunter is I think pretty widely recognised as one of, if not the, best.

Traits:
Introvert - Expends less oxygen when travelling without a human companion (more oxygen when you do). I take this because I more or less never take a companion with me into combat situations, so there's very rarely a downside to it.
Taskmaster - Ship Crew can cost twice as much to hire, but when a system the crew are proficient in is damaged to below 50% health they sometimes spontaneously repair to 100%.
Wanted - Whenever your health is low you get the Cornered buff, giving you a damage boost. Also, the game puts Bounty Hunters in your path from time to time. This last one, the bounty hunters, is supposed to be a downside to the trait, but honestly I think it's a double-positive; the bounty hunters are a good source of XP and loot and rarely pose a genuine threat.

Load into the game, get through character creation with all that, then once you're 'free' on Jemison, take a nap at the lodge (well rested xp boost), grab a Tranquilitea drink from somewhere (xp boost), then head to the UC Vanguard. Resist the urge to spend any skill points yet.

Once at the Vanguard, set all difficulty settings to max (except perhaps Ship ones, if you want to take it easy on yourself), and grind out destroying ships to rank Piloting up. Takes about 20-30 minutes depending on luck/skill. You should go in with 2 skills points, you need 3 ultimately, but 2 gets you the unlocks you need and you can go get the third once you've destroyed the final 30 ships to unlock Rank 4: go in at Rank 1, rank up twice, destroy 30 more ships, rank up again if you have the skill point, or not. If you have 3 skill points going in, I could recommend putting 1 point into Energy Weapon Systems as it buffs both EM and PB weapon types.

You can, if you like, at that point try your hand at thievery in The Well under New Atlantis (or New Atlantis proper), and sell off your haul at the Trade Authority in The Well and the kiosk at the Spaceport. If you've got credits, buy some tranquilitea for the xp boost, and some digipicks at various traders.

After that... I've taken to heading to Toliman II and the Forward Base 441.
Hefty environmental damage can be incurred here, so either turn Env Damage difficulty settings down, or be fast. You can save before exiting your ship and reload if you don't like what you find, or just take what you get; exit the ship, head into the facility, sneak/hide and loot the weapons/crates and ammo at the firing range you pass, then head into the 2-story facility behind the chain link fence, again sneak/hide and grab what you can just watch for the UC security), it's possible to get some good gear here. Once done head out, and into the building just next to this one, and you'll find some more lootable gear (and another UC soldier to avoid attention of).

And then, then you're on your own. You could head off to any nearby ship markers on the map and try your hand at some piracy, head into the wilds and start killing wildlife to level up ballistics/weapon skills, do a mad dash to get out to the level 75 planets (Huygens IV is an environmentally safe one) and take a crack at taking down high level enemies to see if you can score advanced legendaries at low level. Or just meander around and start doing quests.

Thats what I want. A broken and overpowered build and what to take at start and what to focus on.

Put points into Shotgun and other ballistic and associated skills down that tree (also, stick points into Stealth as you can). When you get an opportunity, get an Advanced Pacifier with Suppressor and Slug Shots or a Breach with Suppressor. An advanced pacifier with slug shots and a suppressor, combined with stealth and shotgun/weapon perks, can do everything from mid-range sniping up to close combat.

IMO that above feels very stealth archer to me. Get chameleon armour when it drops, if you can without sacrificing too much protectiveness.

Is that the sort of tip you want? :)

lol, sorry but I should have said "Im an old dood, I always play on VERY EASY... I frantically search for the option when I play games. There have been times that I have turned difficulty UP but I just wanna have fun." (sorry long quote)

But I do like what youre laying down about stealth and persuasion. Basically follow my gut of Bethesdas stealth type builds.

Thanks for the advice

If you're lucky, you'll find a pacifier with some good modifiers on it, like Shattering (ignores armour) or Instigating (doubles dam on full health enemies). When you see them, they're definitely worth considering as a main weapon. I've found a couple of decent pacifiers, and have kept them for hundreds of hours - once crafting skills are leveled up to unlock more weapon mods, you can add scopes etc to them and ramp the damage up further (depending on what they drop with).

A dead easy weapon loadout is a breach or pacifier mid/close range precision work, a va'ruun inflictor rifle for more run n gun action in those moments you don't have time to be accurate, and maybe a hard target for long-distance sniping. If you can pick up decent variants of those three, you're basically set. (there are other fun ones, of course, like a decked out urban eagle or old earth pistol can be a lot of fun for stealth through a facility too)

ed: and that mini-walkthrough earlier, if you want to make things easy after getting past the Pilotting grind - don't forget to turn difficulty settings back down :)

Bruh this is so in depth... it makes sense... I learned early how to steal the good armor at the beginning by looking just right (did they patch that?)

I really appreciate the response. I asked a simple question and you dropped the encyclopedia lol
Persuasion? Why Stop there...

Theres Diplomacy, Instigation and Intimidation too!

these can be interwined with stealth actually, just hope it works when used.

When I first played blind and I was able to talk my way out of the first bandit encounter, I got that Bethesda feeling and it kept me going. Thats the kinda thing that I love about these games.

Go in blasting, or use your brain.

I spent my whole first 4-5 (maybe an exaggeration) hours talking to the guy who cares about the trees. i was like, BRUH WE GOTTA FIND OUT WHATS WRONG WITH THE TREES!!!!! I was so sad I couldnt finish it without continuing the main game!!

They did, which is a shame.

Yeah sorry bout that. You play the game 1000 hours and you develop "opinions" :D

I came back to note why I prefer pacifier over breach: clip capacity. Pacifier has a better clip and fire rate, so reload is less frequent. Plus the slug shots are amazing for sniping.
White Rabbit Alice May 14, 2024 @ 5:49pm
my background is combat medic, i cant tell you which Quests to do,i B-Lined the main quest, got all the powers, went NG.

something that boosts 02 i think and Empath.
I Use pistols mostly, my current skills are Ballistics 4,Pistols 3,Marksmanship II, Targetting 2, Persuasion, Scavenging, Intimidation (Fears Enemies off),Diplomacy (Pacifies, but theres a power for that.),i dont have Instigation yet,the rest of my skills are supports, mostly ship skills, the Social Skillset can, again be used with stealth, but its like the persuasion check, its random if it'll work or not. Marksmanship and Targeting are nice to mix in together with stealth becuase you can shoot from the hip and maybe get a crit even if you dont hit the head + The Sneak Attack. or Sneak Diplo/Intim/Instigate
