Switching to a different engine would be about the most stupid thing they possibly could do.
FromSoftware}
Not being creative? They made an entire universe that is completely new for their studio and started a new IP. It's the most creative thing they could have done. If you had done even a modicum of reading, you would have discovered they made a brand new engine just for TES6 and SF.
To be fair, the 'universe; they've made is extremely bland and unimaginative. They've either purposefully played it way too safe or simply employed terrible writers, perhaps a bit of both. With the vast possibilities in terms of what they could have created, it's actually hard to believe that this is the best they could come up with; generic main factions that come across as though they were written and designed in under 5 minutes alongside a vision of the future that somehow manages to be boring and senseless at the same time.
The only elements provoking real imagination and interest are House Va'Ruun, who aren't even properly in the game, and the Starborn/Main 'story' which currently plays as though it's only around 5% finished.
The attempt should not be awarded for creativity. Even though its a new IP/world it fails to be creatively compelling in any possible way. It is bits and pieces of the same scifi story told countless times, but stripped down to the most basic elements of story telling. It is the stuff of high school creative writing classes. Anyone who disagrees with this or is impressed by Starfield's world/story simply does not spend enough time immersing themselves in truly great creative worlds, be that in books, games, movies, etc.
A very good point that I tried raising a while ago. I wish it was pointed out more. It starts off near hands off but over a year turns full on Borg.
Creating something new is not the same as creating something creatively.
LOL! I can't stop laughing. A dying Earth and liberal and a conservative faction that dresses up as space cowboys. Totally, totally creative.
There is an Oblivion remake in the process (we know from the MS leak in court) and its rumoured (this we don´t know for sure) that its outsourced entirely and will feature a symbiotic twist of two engines, where the original is keept for most gameplay related and then UE5 for graphics and audio overhaul.
They should have did all this with Starfield. Especially the outsourcing.
Thank you for your vision. I suppose each aspect of the game can only be viewed through the eye of the beholder. If you think the game is bland, that's your prerogative, respect.
