Background and Trait Dialogue options
Does anybody know why backgrounds come up more and less frequently during dialogue? I picked Background: Gangster and Traits Neon Street Rat, Wanted, Alien DNA during my first play through. While I sadly don't remember Alien DNA ever coming up, the other options came up all the time.
For a new character, I picked Long Hauler as well as Kid Stuff, raised Universal, Taskmaster. I think long hauler came up once early in the main story but I can't think of any other coming up. Universal and Kid Stuff could come op with Matteo and Universal with the many religious NPCs but Universal only came up once in a dialgoeu with the Enlightened guy in New Atlantis.

After taking a break for a while, I'm trying to get back into this game with a new character. So I'm wondering which Background and Traits I should take, purely for roleplay options.

I like Bounty Hunter, for starting Skills and the background comes up here and there

Kids stuff, Adoring Fan, Wanted, Dream home all have points to them
Taskmaster is good if you run Difficulty on the hardest modes, even more on NG+

Thanks, that's interesting. I didn't do the Vanguard questline during my first playthrough, and I only got partially through the second.
Not looking for specific spoilers though, just experience what comes up more and less frequently.

if you want on a ng+ do the questlines atleast one time (only the big faction ones) than you got some new dialog options if you do them again in ng+

Honestly curious how that trait fits in. They are so alien an secretive that I wonder how some of the NPC reveals would make sense. Especially if your also select Kid Stuff.

I never used Kid Stuff... But there are several interesting places where the VaRuun helps you through some spots. Mostly n the main quest for artifacts.

Kids stuff nets you a gun, armor and a ship.
Plus you get a Dad who may very well look comically silly depending on your CC choices
You also run into them in different places
