All saves are permanently modded
For reasons I don't know why all my saves are modded and I am unable to do anything. Before my old pc kicked the bucket I downloaded an achievement enabler mod. When I bought a new one and installed it on that pc every save was modded. Even when I created a new character profile and it auto saved, I paused the game, load, chose character and it showed modded. I deleted the mod undid any modifications in the root directory and still the same thing.

Download this, put in the game directory and mod/do whatever you want with the game, you still will get your achivements just fine.

turn off steam cloud save

Ok. This will only work on the Steam version, which I guess you have since you are here.

1) There is a file called StarfieldConsoleHistory.log. It is either in the main game folder or the My Documents folder. Delete it before you even load the game at all. (I killed the My Documents Starfield folder so mine will go to the main folder regardless so I can't say exactly.)

2) Go to Nexusmods and get "Baka Achievement Enabler (SFSE)." You will need SFSE at least for this.

3) I did console command "slm 14 2" and changed my name. It seemed to me that the (modded) name became the main save because it was the latest save. (modded) was not behind the new name for me.

4) Quick save, exit to the main menu, load back. (I didn't have to exit for this but some things you do. Might as well get in the practice.)

Repeat 3) to change your name back if your new name is no longer (modded).

This worked for me after the achievement enabler I was using stopped working and the author suggested to change to this one. The con with this is that it will not enable any achievements you may have gotten while the game was blocking them. You will have to either start over or hope you can get them in a NG+. No matter if I play with or without other mods now, I leave SFSE and Baka Achievement Enabler installed and launch with SFSE. The game seems to have the philosophy of "Once a cheater, always a cheater" unless you start a completely new clean game.

I hope this works for (me?) you. It did for me but after the December update that broke the other enabler I was using which caused my game to be (modded).

EDIT: Broke my pronoun, pun intended.

I’ll try it when I come back from work.

Not an expert, but i was told using ModManger2 and running the game using that (with a changing set of mods to be activated), will help to play save games and add/subtract mods and continue. Basicly do not mod the game folder itselve, except for adding these files
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/106

The archievement part is another issue, where another guy here told you something about that.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

When you do something in your current Starfield session (like using a console command) it flags the ENTIRE session as being modified.

Which means if you were to load your non-modified save from BEFORE using the console command it will flag that save as being modified once loaded (if you save it.)

To avoid this you need to exit the game session by exiting the game completely and then starting and loading the save.

My problem was all my saves became modded. Even when I created a new game and it auto saved after character creation, in the load menu it said modded.

There is two ways for a save to become modified:
- You used a console command
- You used a mod
It does not just become modified at random.

That’s the strange part I downloaded the achievement enabler mod on my old pc before it bricked and when I downloaded Starfield without achievement enabler mod on my new pc all my saves said modded. So I decided to start new game on a different save slot it said modded after it auto saved after character creation.
