How do you save spare ship parts into the ship builder?
I saw a Youtube where a player had saved a cockpit from Deimos and brought it to Porrima III where they built their new ship from scratch.

I am never offered the chance to store ship parts for later use. This would be very helpful.

You don't.

If you need to haul a ship part from one shipyard to another then you do this by having it installed on your ship. If you want a Nova cockpit and a HopeTech landing gear, then you build a ship with this Nova cockpit in a shipyard that has it, the fly it to HopeTech and install their gear.

Outposts are good for this. They don't have every parts, those tied into quests still have to be unlocked. I also think they are only offered at certain ship yards. For all the other parts you can get them using the ship builder at outposts, keep in mind some are level locked so they won't show until you hit the unlock point.

As stated above you can not do this easy peasy. Got to go and get the parts you want to use with a ship you want to change to make use of these parts. I often grab the manufacturer specialty parts i want for a build then head to a outpost with a large landing pad with builder then finish my build there.

It would be interesting to see that video.

I have noticed that when you remove a part from your ship which isn't stocked at the staryard you're doing the rebuild at, you don't actually lose the part. It shows up in the parts list as if that yard did stock it. However, you can only reattach as many as you removed.

Perhaps that list of available ship parts is persistent? I assumed it wasn't, but I never tested it.

I see that Deimos cockpit was on the ship he brought and completely disassembled. It was in the list of available parts with a + next to the amount however and selecting it was how he made the cockpit re-appear.

We need this feature even if it is capped. Tired of throwing away valuable parts.

This^ Plus 2 obvious points 1. Yellow warning means nothing (red is important) so if you get that prompt it's fine and 2. you don't have to fly the ship until it's done anyway. So just take what's only available at that stop and slap the rest together until you get rid of the red then go to your outpost and finish the rest. Sometimes i might have to make 2 stops for additional parts before I get to my outpost's ship builder. I think once I made 3 stops before i got there.

So the + is additional inventory beyond what the shipbuilder itself has, eh?

When you delete a part in the shipbuilder, your account (upper right of screen) is credited for that part (hugely discounted!) and the part is put into the parts list with all the other available modules. The + means you can purchase it for the reduced price that you got as credit when you deleted it. So in effect while in shipbuilder you can "store" modules for re-use at a reduced cost compared to buying that module "new." BIG CAVEAT! Those parts you deleted and got credit for and were stored DO NOT PERSIST! Once you leave the shipbuilder session they are no longer available as "used" parts, even at the same Ship Tech facility, so if you want to use them at a different Ship Tech facility, you need to attach them to your ship before exiting the shipbuilder.

Then the video Reaver's talking about is showing a glitch rather than normal gameplay, I guess.

The way you save ship parts in ship builder, oh that's easy.

You just tack the part you want, onto your ship.
Then you just fly to the next builder, with your ugly looking ship with a part that is in the wrong place.

Serious,
It is just how its done.

He undoubtedly "carried" that Deimos module as part of a mostly-disassembled ship, Any ship you use to open the shipbuilder must have passed the flight check and that means it has a cockpit. If he then "completely disassembled" it, that cockpit would have gone into the parts list as a "used" item (with +) and he could then select it later to attach to the ship being rebuilt. Not a glitch, just a detail likely not noticed or maybe not shown well in the video.
