I literally picked up trash...
I literally picked up apiece of trash laying in the corner in The Well and New Atlantis cops blew a gasket and attacked me en masse. It wasn't even an item you could add to your inventory...but you could pick it up and move it using the hold-E command. And it was literally just trash, some sort of empty box laying in a corner by a stair.

Sheesh! What's the most innocuous thing you've done to get a bounty?

One time I literally did nothing. A UC ship blundered into my turrets' firing solution.

There's a SF quip here somewhere but I haven't quite worked it out yet

I did the same thing when it first came out. I dropped the can immediately back on the ground with the rest of the trash. Teach me for cleaning up the community.

My first crime was robbing a ship over Cydonia because the Frontier was armed, there was [Piracy] option in dialogues and the hell, why not? It's not like Vasco tried anything to stop me.

I've had bounties, but no idea how I got them. I wonder if your companion witnesses a murder (and I'm completely hidden), and she's the only witness, does that create a bounty?

I got a bounty in a space battle. I destroyed 2 crimson fleet vessels who were attacking 5 UC vessels. Apparently one single laser beam from my ship accidentally hit one of the UC vessels and all 5 became hostile towards me so I had to destroy them all. I think there should be a damage threshold in order for friendly targets to become hostile, maybe their shields gone completely and any kind of hull damage, something like that and not just one single shot.

Crime detection system sometimes bugs out and gives you minimum 650 credits bounty even if there are no witnesses. I had to pay it a few times even after seeing the message about all witnesses being killed and bounty being removed.

Vey much almost always when I was killing the Crimson Fleet ships for the Freestar.

You shouldn't get a bounty for blowing up crimson fleet ships.....

You get the CF bounty like with any other faction. There's no mechanical difference between them or any other group.
