DLSS Frame Generation Screen Tearing
Playing on 4070 laptop (all ultra settings) and with frame gen enabled getting 70-85+ fps (disabled still getting a playable 45-60+ fps) in the New Atlantis city. Disabling frame generation there is no screen tearing at all. If I lower the graphics settings from Ultra to High I can get a modest fps boost. But enabling frame generation causes screen tearing on the left/right side of the screen when panning the camera (depending on which direction I’m panning). I’m using a GSync compatible 165Hz 1080p display and have set vSync set to globally “On” via nVidia control panel (it’s Off in game). How do I fix this screen tearing which only affects the game when I turn on frame generation? I use frame generation in other games like Jedi survivor and don’t experience this tearing. Might have to just turn it off…

Are you in scanner mode? I noticed the same weird things as you with frame generation but only when I bring up the scanner.

No just in regular mode. When panning the camera (I play with a controller) if I’m moving the camera left I notice a column of screen tearing on the left, same on the right if I’m panning the camera to the right. Turning off frame generation resolves the issue but ideally I’d like to keep it on.

Even though you have vSync set globally "On" I would still check the Starfield profile in nVidia control panel (and even force it to on there). No idea if this will work but it's a quick thing to check and try.

I wasn't sure what Screen Tearing was, so I looked up a video to see and yes, this is the problem I am having as well.

In the video he has a link for a fix to this problem but I'm not at home so I can't test the fix. here's the link if you want to check it out.

I'll be looking into this when I get home now that I know what my problem is called, but that's 12 hours from now.

I would try switching Vsync ON in game and OFF in Control Panel. Maybe that's something they still need to sort out with this Beta.

You can’t enable vSync in game anyway (when using frame generation). Frame generation disables vSync in games.

I'm not talking about turning it on in game. I'm talking about forcing Vsync on in Nvidia control panel (program settings tab then scroll to starfield.exe) which is what I did on a 4070Ti - desktop. And yes I am still getting the increased frame rates from frame generation (100 - 130 fps vs 55 - 70 without - 1440p max settings) and haven't noticed anything unusual or artifacting.

And every other thread I've found on this issue basically says to do the same thing. I can't tell you why but it works for me.

Edit: I re-read my first post and I definitely wasn't clear what I meant.
