Do you have anything stored on the ship? Such as in an Armoury, dropped on the floor, in any boxes or in the captains locker?
And, is your cargo hold full?
I had the same problem with the Frontier. I upgraded it with an Armoury hab, stored 2 suits, and a number of weapons in it to save on cargo space (Since that doesn't count to cargo hold total) but every time i tried to upgrade my reactor the game crashed out.
Removed everything from the hab, and took a few things out of the cargo hold so it wasn't full (A few ship parts was all i took out) and that stopped the crashes.
I suppose it's possible the quest item in the hold is an issue as well but I would have thought since I'm only adding space it would be fine. Maybe I'll look to use resources and offload some items. Or how long it is before I get a new ship.
Hi buddy. Good to see you posting again. :)
Good solution offered also. Guess that is why I never had that issue. Anything my ship cannot hold it is meant to and the cargo is full, I place those in the Lodge's containers.
It was still crashing after the quest item was gone so that wasn't the issue. No idea why you shouldn't be able to edit a ship with items in since it's nearly 100% certain you would have them.
I then went to the technician, modified the Frontier with a hab module, and tried to save. CTD.
I then removed everything pertaining to ships from my plugins.txt, went back to the ship technician and added a hab module.
CTD.
Ok, I then tried to modify the ship again. No changes to structure, only repainted the main hab.
CTD.
Well, maybe the fault lies with the new games settings. I had modified them to allow access to the ship's locker from anywhere. I checked the settings and everything was reset to normal. I had been playing on hard, so the settings were wiped.
I am pretty sure at this point that the error lies with Bethesda.
Well, OK. Something is busted, but it seems only at the first load after the update. After a lot of running around, I just bought a new ship, and I could update that. Note that the modified ship builder screen does not work with the new version, but the one supplied does (missing a few features). At least it is playable. Note that my settings were set back to hard from normal at some point.
