And Yes game pass has helped keep Steam numbers lower for SF.

All sorts of reasons... Including Palworld taking away players from just about every other game. Game Pass ratios between games, interest in SkyRim rekindled by SF, all sorts of things.

True. Skyrim and FO4 being older titles that are now preferable to play exclusively on PC could be a thing also. I'm just trying to be generous to Starfield and say that even if the game is dead, some are still awaiting a revival.

I'm keeping an eye on it to see what the finished product will look like years down the road myself. I did the same with FO76; held off for years on buying it, then finally dove in if only to see the depths of how far Bethesda had fallen.

Can't make such a judgement, too little information.

I.E. I put 500 hours into Starfield, probably won't play it again until the expansion comes out or at least official mod support. But now, now I'm playing Fallout 4. Which you can't interpret to me not liking Starfield, solely because I chose to play Fallout 4 now.

I went back and played some SkyRim and FO4 while waiting for the release. I had been playing NMS to the tune of 7600 hours.

I still do not see this thinking of "BGS as fallen" stuff. It's an updated engine with much better graphics and a real feel. Actually fewer loading screens, The Map assets are huge and well made, the stories are in line with every other BGS title.

Sure they have more "wokisms" in game but so does a lot of other games.

Well, I actually think fallout 4 is a little better than starfield, so I'm not surprised if it's true. There's no meaningful exploration in starfield where fallout 4 has tons of meaningful exploration.

For me fallout 4 is 8/10 and starfield is 6.5/10. Starfield for me is a step backwards in fun. I'm still liking starfield, but I should really be more excited about it and I'm not. I should love this game.

Bethesda needs to hire some actual passionate gamers instead of the diverse excrement they call staff.

They've fallen in the sense that the game play has suffered immensely in their last two titles. In 76 the entire thing was designed with a mobile game model of restricting the player (through things like limited inventory space/premium currency that could be redeemed daily via selling legendary items) and requiring a subscription payment in order to be fully enjoyed. That destroyed a lot of fan's trust in them.

Now with Starfield, they've gone for a "quantity over quality" copy/paste game design that has led many to conclude that Bethesda is now truly soulless and therefore dead as well. So while I could easily be wrong, I suspect this lack of faith in the company has a lot more to do with current player counts than other factors, and is why many have returned to the older titles instead, far away from modern BGS and their "improvements".

It's not really alarming, it's entirely expected. Starfield is an abortion of a game and therefore its player retention is extremely poor despite multiple replayability-centric mechanics within the game.
