Nvidia Driver 551.23 is out (also do this)
Nvidia Ultra Low Latency Mode is now compatible with DirectX 12 Titles.
When enabled in Nvidia Control Panel, this setting increases PC responsiveness by reducing the render queue. Starfield uses DirectX 12.

Games with Frame Gen:

And Don't Forget to go to your Nvidia Control Panel and Set "Low Latency Mode"
to "Ultra" for Starfield.

*Also do this: I recommend you delete your pipeline cache before launching your game.
*See below.

AND DO THIS: (Recommended)

Every time you update your Nvidia drivers it clears your Nvidia Shader Cache - But it does not clear your Starfield Shader Cache. So -
After I install the new driver and before I launch the game I delete pipeline.cache from my folder which is located here - C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Starfield

If you can't find the above file path do this as posted by Mephitic:
you can access it by selecting View->Show and checking to show Hidden items, or you can type the path in the address bar and it will take you there.

Make sure you do the above immediately after you update your Nvidia driver and before you launch Starfield.

Then the next time you launch your game your shaders will rebuild.

You don't have to do this but I do in order to start with all shader cache folders cleared.
Starfield will update it's shader cache located in appdata every time you install a new video driver. At least it's supposed to. Sadly some people have had issues as it does not always do this and so it's best to delete it so it recompiles it. However i'd suggest not doing the extra step unless you're having an issue. Just update your driver and play the game. fyi mine recompiled after updating to this vid card driver as it usually does.

I like that they added Utra low latency mode. This may or should help people with G-Sync. tbh i've tried Off, ON, Ultra and never noticed a difference with Latency. But i just use my TV so 60hz refresh here. Just did a bunch of testing with those 3 plus in game settings of Reflex off, On and On+boost. Vsync ON and Off. GPU busy is the same. Frametime is the same. Ya dude i've just never seen any difference. I always wondered if those settings in cp panel or in game worked and i still have no clue. Again no G-Sync here.

So did some more testing but this time used dpclatencymon as frameview and others didn't really help. And it does look like latency is lowered using On or Ultra in cp panel. And in game using Reflex also helps. Not sure about reflex+boost as it seems the same as just reflex on. And when i say lowered i only mean High execution times are lowered. Not lowered average. But it does mean it should help reduce stutters. So using both in cp panel and in game is highly suggested for that imo.

Do note that the settings can effect each game differently. Both settings say they may impact fps and they do. In cp2077 using Reflex i loose 7-9% fps. Ya that much, but depends on settings. Ray Trace Ultra i lost that much. But Ray Trace Overdrive i lost a lot less. Using Ultra low Latency in cp panel i lost 1-2% fps. And i don't have stuttering in games. So i'm going to set in games Reflex to OFF for cp2077 and cp panel i'll set Low Latency Mode to Ultra globally. Starfield there is no loss in fps for either settings so leaving my global setting in cp alone and in game i will use Reflex+Boost. So tldr people;

"Low Latency Mode" in cp panel=set to Ultra
"Nvidia Reflex Low Latency" in game=set to Reflex+Boost

Installed this a day or so ago, today i wanted to boot the game, no dice. Rerolled gpu driver since it had seen a update as well but no dice. Atm deleted all game data and trying to reinstal... *crosing fingers* not sure what todo when this doesnt work... first serious issue in 867.5 hours of playtime since pre release.

*Swipes his head* Ohw boy pfew!!! Got it too work again :steamhappy: Now im hoping the steam cloud connects and im able to get on with my saves

*Edit* Well F me... none of my saves somehow work, the moment i put them back the game refuses to boot... Ahwel... At least its running again :steamhappy:

*Edit2* Well... im fckd, game refuses to create a new save file and i can not use any of my old ones either... i dont use onedrive either... it also refuses to load in my steam cloud saves :o... NOW WHAT *sniffels*

*Edit4* Well... second google search result gave me the answer altough strange this issue hasnt happened before this all... Turns out it was the microsoft ransomware protection system blocking the game from accesing the steam cloud and my older saves O-o thing is... ive had it one even before this game existed >_< wth happend? Why wasnt it an issue first and now became one after a gpu update? O-o

Just updated my drivers, and I no longer am seeing quest markers. While in space I don't see the arrow indicators for ships/wrecks/quest indicating direction.

I am also running the beta so that could also be an issue but everything was solid before I updated drivers.

Try and rollback the gpu driver as that seems to be the last change you made too your system

Moobert, I'm on the beta and don't have those issues. Maybe try DDU and reinstall the driver. You could be one of the few that does require the shadercache aka pipeline.cache in appdata be deleted. As an experiment i did try deleting that file and still no issues here.

Well, I'm running a nvidia 1050m... The game works with it ok, but I'm not entirely sure the features will work with my video set... 7 year old machine.

I'll update in a month or two, seeing as I just updated last week or so...

NVSlimmer is a freeware tool to remove and customize included programs and settings bundled with your NVIDIA driver package.

The NVIDIA driver package is now over 500MB for Windows 10 64-Bit. With this comes a lot of bloat.

For example, you can remove GeForce Experience, nView, Telemetry, etc. Best of all, you can actually (finally) strip your driver's package back down to a driver's only package, something we find sorely lacking for a company making video cards for gaming.
I prefer NVCleanStall but both are great utilities. I do like the extra features of NVCLeanStall. Like setting vid card to msi mode instead of legacy IRQ mode. Being able to disable Multiplane Overlay and Disabling HDCP. Maybe slimmer disables Ansel but don't see it listed and cleanstall does have that option. So just a few more settings. Slimmer just slims where as cleanstall slims and adds a few features. But ya both great tools. Pick one or the other and you're golden.

I guess I'm an outlier, I actually like GeForce Experience. To each his own however.

I dropped in to add one more note to the thread if you do use an nVidia GPU and want to trigger a full shader cache rebuild. You do need to delete the pipeline.cache file as detailed above but there is one more step.

As of nVidia driver version 511.79 (not the latest, but they made this change silently with no notice to users) the path to nVidia shader caches for DirectX is changed. It is now located here:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache

If you use OpenGL for any games, you will also see a GLCache folder there but it is not relevant to Starfield.

The pipeline, cache file location is still
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Starfield

To trigger a full rebuild of the cache, delete all files in the DXCache folder as well as the pipeline, cache file.

For reference, the nVidia shader files used to be in
C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache

Hopefully this helps some people.
I've been fortunate and haven't had any performance issues running game at max settings from day 1.
Before DLSS I was running it at 2k max settings no problem.
With DLSS 4k works fine.

Good luck guys. And remember, if you're having fun then eff the trolls.

At the very least you can use the Nvidia Control panel's Ultra Low Latency Mode with DirectX 12 titles like Starfield
Did this last night change the Low Latency to Ultra using the Nvidia Control panel. Loaded the game to where I was and heard this noise and thought oh no a cooling fan is going out. Then I saw it was raining and the noise heard was the rain. Then ran past one of those vents and could see a glow like lava. This little change helped my older GPU show more details and improved the sound. Thanks Vlad

Yvw. I've cleaned my cache a couple of times but when you install a new graphics driver you start fresh so it's also a good time to delete this game's pipeline cache if you want to (you don't have to). I did because it had been a long time since I last did so and I wanted to let the shader cache build entirely fresh. The game looks great.

Can no longer start my game after updating the Nvidia driver. Game will immediately crash after moving mouse cursor.
Moobert Jan 27, 2024 @ 3:07am
Just a follow up on my issue, it seems to be related to temples in NG+. The temple quests markers do not show up anymore. Luckily I don't really need them.

All other markers are now working.

Edit: found a fix: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/6206

It is NOT driver related!

FWIW Driver version 551.23 has absolutely tanked my FPS. I was getting 60+ FPS on Ultra with a 3080 last week on 546.64, zero issues. Once I updated my FPS dropped to around 10-15fps, even on low settings. I thought maybe it was the DLSS mods I had installed, but I've removed all of those and rebuilt the shader cache and it's still painfully slow. Rolling back the driver fixed it right up.
