The PC crashes have become unbearable
UPDATE: I started a new game and played around 2 hours without a crash. Loaded up my main save and crashed under 10 minutes. Tried the latest beta patch and the results were the same. This is a game-breaking bug, Bethesda. Why is no one on it?

While I experienced the occasional crash here and there before, after 350+ hours, the game has become unplayable for me. Now, it crashes consistently within 15 minutes of playtime. I'm currently in NG+1 and have been exclusively using this save for the past 250 hours (no mods, by the way). Starting a new game is not an option for me.

The hardware is not an issue because I reached this point with almost zero problems. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing crashes that make the game totally unplayable.

Specs:
i7-12700K (not overclocked)
32GB DDR5
Samsung NVMe M.2 970 EVO Plus 2TB (the game is installed on this one)
RTX 4080 (default clocks)

Try deleting all but 5 (or even less!) saves files at any one time

Disable steam cloud saves and windows OneDrive
Do not use quick saves .

Clean up any items or outposts you don't need.

Ng+2 could help even more!

Use this link to re cache the shaders :

Hope any of this helps!

I always keep <5 saves for faster cloud saves.

OneDrive is disabled, will try to disable cloud saves too and see what happens.

Will do.

Will do, although I don't see why this matters when I'm in space.

Maybe, but my NG+ is bugged as I can't pick the last artifact (among other bugged quests).

I had issues in ng by getting to high of lvl; causing me to crash to desktop.
It started around lvl 94, if I deleted my saves back to lvl 70s - 80s it was fine until I reached 94 again, where ng+ fixed all that.
Your case sounds like; you have a corrupt save which will be baked into all your saves including your most recent..

Ok Todd.

i7-12700K (not overclocked)
32GB DDR5
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB (the game is installed on this one)
RTX 4080

Like I said (and you ignored): The hardware is not an issue. But thanks for trying to help.

Make sure the RAM is profiled correctly in the BIOS and that the nvme is running properly and not in the wrong slot!~~

NVMe, yeah, will update the specs.

Everything is fine on that end. I fear it's one of those "bloated save" bugs which sucks because I don't want to start a new game. Another NG+ is also not an option because I can't pick up the last artifact (bugged).

Its pretty much been around since Fallout 3.

I remember people talking about this stuff even back then. Always happens when they get too big and one or two bugs just spread.

The first Unofficial Patch after CK comes out will likely stop a lot of this. As well as memory enhancement mods that games like Skyrim get.

I'm sad for your save though...

i am very much like your setup both hardware/software...all perfect till lvl 100 or so..then occassional jump to desktop...once in a week...now its once every hour or less cleared all caches..shaders...went back nvidia drivers..the only option a save going from lvl 147 to 143...all perfect again...now m approaching the same level of pain :-) i did not do the NG..

It sucks. I'm awaiting these stability fixes and will install the beta branch as soon as it becomses available. Can't play like this.
major tom Jan 18, 2024 @ 3:21am
google "starfield dynamic form id" and you will find one of the reasons of instability. even a modder gave up on this. it is most probably not a hardware related problem. the starfield bug ruining saves is confirmed by bethesda
