Hunting for a Ecliptic Claymore.
Currently on new game 4 and I am on the hunt for a Claymore. I know these things are pretty much random but...

My first play through I didn't encounter any until I was basically "finished" with that run. Last three planets I landed on for the the final story missions I had one within a few seconds of landing on all three planets.

I have since seen a total of three between new games 2, 3 and 4. One was a space battle and the other two were on planets but were too far away and took off before I even got half way to them.

Has anyone found anywhere that seems like it would give me a better chance to get one?

Dunno if there are any guarenteed spawn points but here's one way to grind it out:
Keep landing on planets. A ship landing site spawns within 30 seconds of landing like 80%+ of the time for me. Run towards the landing ship with the scanner on it and you should be able to see whether it is a Claymore or not - if it is don't kill the hostiles at the landing site, just enter the ship to capture it. If it isn't a Claymore, move to a new landing site on the same or different planet until it is

Don't try to hijack Claymores on Jemison or Cheyenne. I will likely not end well.

My first Claymore 3 was found on Luna. Even if I don't find a Claymore, I'll see the next best thing with Reef, Vista, Prophecy, Wight. These start with class C reactor 38 power or higher. And great resale value.

Low grav, non vegetative terrain is a bonus.

Also, once you find a likely moon or planet, save your game just before you exit the ship. Then if the ship that lands isn't what you want, just reload that save and try again.

If you are high enough level they are by far the most likely ship to land at random landing spots.
(Ecliptic at lvl62+ use Claymore III and Falcatta III for landing spots, rarely a bayonet shows up instead...)
So if you are high enough level just land on a crater moon.
And reload the auto-save from getting out of your ship if the ship that lands when you get out isn't one you want (or one doesn't show up).

EDIT: didn't see previous comment said basically the same thing lol...

I'm level 81, now in NG+ - have been seeing Claymore I's, II's, but still never a III.
Tried farming high level systems, still no luck. Everytime it's a Claymore II.

Might be char level dependent. I was level 100+ when I saw my first one.

Claymore III is what you want.

They spawn in level 65+ systems, but more often in 75. They are not connected to your level so you could get one at level 10.

Go to a system in the level range, travel to every single planet and moon. Every location has a chance to spawn fleet combat which might contain one. Rinse and repeat with the next system or save scum to before the jumps to try again.

Thanks all. I will definitely be giving these a try 😎

I must've been extremely unlucky at level 10. I never found a ship with a C class reactor until I was much higher. Believe me, I wasted hours and hours looking for one in level 75 systems.

The ships that land on planet definitely are determined by your level, in space it is different.

If you are high level the only ecliptic ships you see on landing spots are Falcata III and Claymore III. (and rarely a Bayonet)

IIRC, I was level 80 or so when I encountered my first Claymore III. One landed a few hundred meters away from my position on Huygens VI.

Since then, Ecliptic will use Claymore III's every so often to attack my ship or to perform an assault at a large POI that I am investigating; this usually happens to me in star systems that are rated as Level 60 or higher.

I also like getting the claymore and then upgrading it an d modding it to my specifications. The end result is a class C ship with auto turrets that can take out the Ecliptic battleship camulus and its escorts. Plus I like the layout inside and sometimes change the habs to include a workshop.

Agreed^ I've done this so many times. I know the ship by the pattern of its landing thrusters as it plummets through the atmosphere. The Claymore is distinctive.

I don't dedicate time to hunting ships anymore, but I pay attention whenever I land, listen for the sonic boom, and decide if I want to chase it or continue on whatever I'm doing.

I have Ecliptic encounters fairly frequently in UC systems while just jumping around looking for ships to pirate. I'm level 80 atm, but there's usually at least one Claymore in the group.
