So what's the benefit of having C class engines on a 4 C class ship if they give you less mobility and less speed than the 6 A class engines?
Edit, i mean , i like the ship building and ships, but ive never really investigated any of this. i too was wondering this, but as i said above, that was my conclusion.
Tankiness, and the way you can get away using less reactor power on engines, best way I can think of is trade offs, so all ship parts can be relevant at least in different stages of the game, cheap and low level parts to get started with and occasionally allow for a quick cash in for +1 upgrades, and the later parts for optimizing for specific game play needs/wants.
I think fuel tanks could have been added to this system, it would make it clear that C engines are for long range voyage, while A is mostly for dynamic fights, mostly against a fewer targets.
I build most of my ships as light as possible.
What is your largest cargo capacity for your A or B class ship?
Class A or B, may be a better choice for your ship, even if it has a Class C Reactor. Personally I like using 6 of the Stroud-Eklund engines that use only 2 power each.
I don't think I'm explaining this right. Everything on my ship IS C class except the engines because no C class engines give me full speed and full mobility. So either I'm missing something or they made the C class engines completely worthless because they are NOT an improvement. They slow you down, they cut your mobility so why are they even in the game? Everything else is better as you go up in class, Why don't the engines?
Ok again, to be clear, I no longer have ANY B or C class ships. They are all C class. I have about ten ships, some fighters, some cargo vessels. My biggest cargo vessel is about 6k total cargo. I'm running 6 A class engines because they give me full mobility and full speed. NONE of the C class engines will do that and I can't figure out why it's like that. It feels like if I put C class engines on a ship they should be better than A class or why are they even there, right? It might be a mod I'm using screwing with things but I just wanted to know is anyone else getting benefits from C class engines over A class engines considering you can use 6 A class and only 4 C class
I'm with you though. I find myself going with class C reactors, and shields, and weapons, but B class engines for the most part. Every ship I build seems to 'need' a different balance depending on the weight
Ok, right, me too. My question is, Shouldn't C class engines be better in some way? Why do they even have C class if they suck worse than A class? I'm just feeling like C class should be the best engines period. I mean that's what progression is. So I feel like I'm missing something but maybe Bethesda's devs are just stupid.
A lot of times I feel like SF was made by really smart people who never play video games. It's the only thing I can think of to explain the horrible keybinds for outpost building, why my hi-tech space ship drives like a pickup truck in a foot of mud on a frozen lake, no preview in shipbuilding and random ladders and doors. A real gamer would have never let those into a game launch.
Class C weapons tend to have a higher DPS output.... even though they have a slower fire rate...
Class C parts also tend to have higher Hull values.....
I think the best shield though is a class B??? something like 1600 points?
The 4 engines may have lower base thrust values, but a higher output in total simply because there's one more engine.
Same goes for weapons. If each one of them only draws 3 power instead of 4, you can install one more until you run into the power limit of 12 for each weapon slot.
Buy them in Akila.
