Just a warning for armory
Don't use ship armory. I lost whole outfits and guns after doing ship builder. Including my mantis outfit. I was going to keep my first save for the things I collected but now, most of those one time things are gone due to this. Also the nova armory is pointless as your outfits don't show up on the mannequins. They are pointless. Just a friendly warning about the armory.

We know. It’s been a bug forever now. The most recent beta patch sounds like it might have fixed it but it’ll break SFSE.

I had no idea. I just got into the ship building aspect of the game and decided to try it all out. What a huge bug to have. We don't get to replay the mantis mission except in ng+

Under what circumstances did you "lose" your gear? If you used ship builder, you must realize that revising a ship requires resetting all the interior details to default, including the armory. But in my experience, all the gear stowed that is not default gear gets sent to the rebuilt ship's inventory. There is a message to this effect when approving the rebuild. Did you check your rebuilt ship's nventory for the "lost" items? If you simply changed home ships, I don't think the gear in the previous ship would be transferred to your new ship, and certainly not to the new ship's armory if it has one. Gear in storage crates stays with the ship in which it was placed, so the same may hold for placed Armory gear. Cargo Inventory and Captain's Locker items also get sent to a new home ship's inventory.

Well I only use cargo storage on my ships, I don't ever use any of that containers. I know that the stored gear goes into the cargo when rebuilding a ship, i know how all these mechanics work. but my gear never went back into the cargo hold. I've checked on all my ships. It's really stupid that ship building works this way. All I know is that I had mantis armor on my mannequin and after redoing one hab on my ship which wasn't even the armory, the armor was gone. My weapons were still in the crates, but the armor stands were empty as were the packs and helmets.

note that you have to EQUIP the armor on the mannequin by going to the item and pressing B.. you can give them multiple suits. but only uses one.. lol

so ya they DO work and show up.. just gotta do it right.. by equipping it

side note
the more items you have in storage, the longer it takes to load..
like in skyrim when you go into the smoke test room and takes 5 minutes to open a box

but ya when you make you're new ship configuration it puts all your crap away.. so generally don't even use em at all

It's been a bug since Skyrim.
Their engine never really supported this.
Mods usually fix that, although I am not sure they will bother for this game.

Alright so I think I over looked the equip button for the mannequin. I thought it just wore the suit you put into it. Thank you for that but if info. I only use one ship really, the others I just ship build for fun. It seems pointless to use multiple when the one I use has over 4000 cargo space and does massive damage. I don't feel like the USE of ships themselves were emollients very well considering you really won't use but one for all of your needs

Probably a superfluous question, but did you actually check the Mannequins, open their inventory, to see if the gear was still in that "container"? If it was on visible display before but not after the rebuild, perhaps they need to be re-equipped. I do not use mannequins much, so I can't be definite, but maybe something to look into. Also, the shipbuilder resets the interior because you essentially have a new ship. With the large range of customization possible, I don't think to would be practical to code it otherwise. Even a new paint job requires the reset, which can clog up you ship's inventory fast lol.

the point should be that all the items get shifted around when you customise..
that part really is annoying and causes the player to think about NOT doing a thing

as for a fix.. uh.. would need each ship to maintain the current position and quantity of items in the correct locations.. so like doesn't ever move your inventory and just leaves it on the ship..

only one ship inventory active at a time is the actual issue with the system i "think"

maybe done to limit the number of storage items contained i dono

it's entirely possible that this was left in the game so players can sell ship items for money over and over.. till the actual method comes out to replace it

The items provided on a ship as part of a module's "furnishings" for each module often get displaced during gameplay, To try and preserve these in exactly the same position they had when starting a rebuild would mean having to incorporate a record of each displaced item (and there are hundreds!), and would only work at all if the module were not replaced with a different "make," such as going from a NovaG. to a Stroud-Eklund hab. The only practical way to do this is to rebuild all the modules to default, and any stored items get sent to the new ship's inventory. Having stored cargo (ship's inventory) moved to the new or rebuilt ships is to make sure people don't use ships as add'l massive storage units. Ships are not junk drawers lol.

The Mantis stuff is OK at low levels. But later you can get much better stuff. Even the free suit in the lodge basement is better than the Mantis suit. The NG+ stuff is also better.
alanc9 Jan 6, 2024 @ 12:16pm
Yeah, but that's why he wants the suit on the mannequin. If it was a better suit he'd be wearing it.

No it's a good question, there's so many possibilities for it. I checked though and they aren't there. I'm gonna check some outposts and see if maybe I put them there but I know I had them in my ship armory. And I guess it makes sense why it resets, it's just silly (though I guess it would be hard to code it a different way) that changing even just one thing, resets the entire ship. It does indeed clog it fast though lol

Yeah I just wanted to display it. It looks really cool.
