Two extremes, most likely both minorities.
If the game is good (gameplay wise) is very subjective. Technically (performance, writing, etc) its maybe below avarage, but who cares.
Ah so you think Bethesda are just incredibly incompetent?
Not likely they all are, but someone is making the decision to keep that relic game engine in play rather than moving to something better.
Oh come now. Why do you use such words as "incredible". Average is the adequate term, otherwise they will feel motivated to push their limits if it gets to their heads :D
It only takes a splitt second to glance at artwork.
Then you get people that will stare and analyse artwork for months.
So yes, you can look at artwork wrong.
Then imagine those on the go-cart that glanced at the artwork for a splitt second saying ''The people say we didn't look properly, its not our fault da Vinci's Artwork sucked ass. It didn't even do anything nor did it have ANY Rgb.''
Developing uniquely handcrafted games with well-balanced, complex and rewarding gameplay systems, well-thought-out level/dungeon designs and large amount of enemy/environmental variety is highly unpredictable and time consuming with an uncertain outcome (investors and shareholders hate risk and uncertainty) .
It's much easier to just procedurally generate most of the environment and copy&paste a few handcrafted outposts 100th of times to sprinkle them over the entire map ;)
It's all about creating the maximal amount of money (return of investment) with the minimal amount of effort (investment).
Why do you even assume that Da Vinci did not give this game a negative review already!?
So you have a Work of Art Meal and now imagine taking that and feeding it to a Golden Retriever and then after you give the Golden Retriever a Can of Dog Food and then ask what the Dog Likes better?
Now imagine that dogs trained to attack at the smell of Pommes Puree.....Growl grrrrr
RUFF! RUFF! RUFF! I HATE STARFIELD! RUFF!
