Starfield struggling to run on high end PC
I just bought Starfield for Christmas and was super excited to play, but a few minutes in, the game starts not working. The video gets incredibly choppy, the game starts freezing and lagging, and audio keeps cutting in and out. This is while it's set to the lowest graphics settings. Starfield is also the only thing running, I closed everything even the steam app in hopes it would run smoother.

I don't think it's a graphics issue because I'm using a custom MSI computer that has been able to run many other modern games with no issues while on the highest graphics settings. Yet Starfield is acting like I'm using a Dell 990.

I've also don't think it to be a storage issue, as I still have well over 100 GB of storage free on my local storage, and over 4tb free on an external hard drive.

If anyone knows what could be the issue or knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Add a SSD to your system and install Starfield to it. I found a 2tb SSD pretty cheap a few months ago.

List your specs or this claim of "high end" is meaningless.

Currently I run an Intel I7 processor, a MAG Z690 motherboard, a GTX 1660 graphics card, and a RM 750e power supply

your pc hasn't been high end in like 8 years

You could try enabling the DLSS in the game settings. may help.
dlss is not supported on 10xx and 16xx cards, only 20xx, 30xx, and 40xx

You are below the minimum requirements for the game.

A 1660 is less than the 1070ti listed to run it.

And a 1660 was never high end, it was a low end budget card even when it released and that was half a decade ago in 2019 (it's 2024 in a couple of hours)

You also didn't bother to list which i7 or how much RAM. It's obvious your PC is very likely entirely under the minimums. What you've listed wasn't even high end when you got it, let alone 5 years later.

True, unless you have the GTX 1650 with the tu106 GPU (aka rtx 2060). This one has 14rt cores and supports dlss.

But this is literally the only GTX 16 series in whole world that can do it. Yes it runs starfield 😎
