aaa is on its deathbed
Bethesda should change their name to Blockbuster 2.0 cause that is what is gonna happen to them.
couldnt agree more. How is miss the days when having cool cosmetics in games meant that you were actually good at the game and not that you asked your mom for $20
It's the same sort of problem when you get someone like Lord British or Peter Molyneux resurfacing again for some project asking you to back them because they were the names associated with past huge projects. But people forget that the conditions and the other people on the TEAM were also important for them at the time too. Even having a good taskmaster to guide and keep development on track can matter a lot too. Without all of that you've only got a thin tie to the past in the form of one ageing famous name and that all too often proves to not be enough even with some heavy hitters in their niche.
Yip, same thing that happened with BioWare. The guys who royally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up Dragon Age 2 and beyond aren't the same guys who scored Baldurs Gate, Never winter Nights or Mass Effect.
Over time, there was the usual slow dripping out of talent and as usual, this dripping became a hard flow and to be honest, you could even feel this slow loss of competence between Baldurs Gate 2 and Neverwinter Nights and between Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect but the biggest hump, I felt as a player was between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2
It's like Bobby 'best Epstein buddy' Kotick and J Allen 'I didn't knew about the Cosby-Suite' Brack being still around but the people that actually made Warcraft 2, WoW and Diablo 2 great, 20 years ago, are nowhere near those companies anymore ;)
Todd "16 times the detail" Howard and Pete "wouldn't just leave it to fail" Hines might still be there but the guys doing the ACTUAL work, have moved on, sometimes even quite some time ago
8 years to recycle animations and mechanics from as far back as skyrim is pathetic.
worst part is some of the mechanics that were recycled are worse than where they came from.
take melee and crafting for example, fallout 4 did both better between actually upgrading your melee weapon to having different melee weapons that actually have different styles.
Even the outposts system in fallout 4 was better, it gave a reason to horde supplies and upgrade your bases versus just using it to farm resources (killing the useless mining laser in the process)
Then you have the new stuff like the mining laser where you get one variant that's not upgradable, like you start off in a mine with said laser only to throw it away a few hours into the game.
So... the next Elder Scrolls will be a Hexen remaster. TES6 is Doomed...
