Outpost Building - Area is Restricted
Why? Can anyone help me understand this?

My base is in the middle of nowhere with no POIs around. Specifically, I'm trying to build an outpost on Neeba in the Kryx system. When trying to plop down an iron miner clearly within the bounds of an iron ore patch, I get the message: "cannot p[lace item - area is restricted".

You'll see a circle showing the area in which you can build your outpost so that circle is the boundry.
So when you are looking for the right spot first open your scanner while on a planet and press [H] on keyboard or [X] on controller to show the beacon however it's not placed yet and won't be until you confirm the spot but you'll also be able to see that circle/boundry.

To get an overhead view select the fly cam which will give you a birds eye view of that circle.

Since you've already placed your beacon you can now see that boundry when you open the builder then choose the birdseye view.

That, and for some odd reason, there are areas inside the build circle that are restricted as well, with absolutely no explanation as to why.... Fully one third of my build area at one outpost was shown as 'restricted' (red border around it.) for no reason I could ascertain.

Not sure why the planet name (n e e b a s) is censored. :steamfacepalm:

Thank you for that information. I'm not sure though. I can place a miner at the end of that zone, but not closer to my outpost computer.

Mind you, I haven't placed any mining equipment yet, and it's all within the iron ore and suitably away from other structures. Just inconsistent somehow? I'll go a take a closer look.

There are little blue crystals on the ground that seem to interfere...maybe? Would be nice if they had a more meaningful error message.

Would a non-resource gas vent interfere? I bet you that's it. I think the game is unable to remove it like it does with rocks.

yes that'll do it. Like HeyYou said they don't go away.

I have to move my beacon sometimes. There's nothing around and a restricted area will cutout access to a resource vein I really want to mine.
