Besides fun quests like Groundpounder and Failure to Communicate, where you're basically a Merc for hire. There's a infamous Ecliptic hideout you can visit and really rake in the credits.

Vulture's Roost in the Jaffa System on Jaffa IV. I go there soon after starting every NG+ to pay for my expensive ship upgrades. My most recent visit, I started with 28k credits. After I cleaned out the Ecliptic squatters and picked up all the cred sticks: +11k credits

Check every locked closet and office for the contraband. All of this came for Vulture's Roost:

These are great!

I think the fastest grab is any cryo lab. Outside, with like 2 low level guards, is a chest with 10 contraband or so (randomized a little) worth > 20k.

I find kill the c class ship to be fast cash. It will have contraband (not much, 2 items?), guns and gear drops, the ship itself, and a bounty all for 5 min of 'work'.

I agree commandeering ships is a great source of credits and advanced weapons I might want to mod and carry for the rest of the game.

Visit any POI's called "Forgotten Military Outpost" they is a locked room that you need to find the key. That's the one that had the GalBank Vault chest in it. Not as much loot as the Vultures Nest since I think it's a repeat POI but rare.

Now that you mention it, Vulture's Roost has Galbank vault with 4 lockers, each with 3-6k credits in it.

Not sure how to tell if its leveled. Seems to always be the same so maybe not. The vault I'm talking about is below the control center, on the near side of the landing bay.

Its easy to miss, but you'll know its under the control room when you find the vault key there.
