Companions not following me!!

More and more my companion are noting following me. I docked with the Colander but my companion won't follow me onboard!! What gives! An yes when I go back to my ship they are still attached to me, meaning I get the option of dropping them!
Addendum: I was able to get my companion onto the Colander by resting, but if there were enemies around that would not have worked.

I took a nap and my companion joined me. Some reports are it doesn't always work but it work for me on my first play-through with Andreja.
