"The game is trash" - Skyrim Together creator
Yes, the creator of the mod "Skyrim Together" (Cosideci), a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that allows online co-op, was so disappointed with Starfield that he scrapped at 70% development his own version of online co-op for Starfield, called "Starfield Together": https://www.pcgamesn.com/starfield/skyrim-together-multiplayer
The silver lining is he will give away the source code for Starfield Together online, so if you are a modder and enjoys Starfield it is time to pick up where he left off. Perhaps even Bethesda Games Studios itself may take this unfinished mod for itself to officially add a co-op mode for Starfield, eh!?
Speaking of Bethesda, since it now makes some of its "Community employees" replying reviews to convince us Starfield is a better game than we think, I suggest Bethesda to get in contact with this disgruntled modder to get direct feedback from him, what about that? To sweeten the deal, you could even assign Todd Howard himself to talk with the guy, maybe you could even hire him to make him officially develop the co-op mode for Starfield with better resources. Food for thoughts!

Makes sense. This is precisely what happened to me. Had to be honest with myself.

Let me preface this by saying I had been a seething BGS fanboy since the 90s, and I went in ready to ADORE this game, ready to overlook the typical BGS flaws, and ready to have another BGS game to spend 1000s of hours on just ONE character.

I upgraded my PC from a 4790k, 1080 ti, and 8GB to a 13900k, 4090, and 64GB. Also new case, mobo, etc etc etc. I even bought the Shartfield controller and headset. I bought a new display and a new ottoman - just for Shartfield. I even went on an internet blackout. I didnt even want to read or see reviews. I also went in assuming FO76 was just a fluke and after Phil's bullsh*t speeches across the internet about "We're sorry about Redfall. Starfield will be good I promise. Gamers deserve better from us at Xbox" I was thinking that MS and BGS were going to hit it out of the park.

MS spent $7bil on BGS and Redfall had just failed. Starfield HAD to sell well. And since Starfield was delayed for an entire year everyone on Earth assumed MS was pouring more and more money on Starfield itself while BGS were taking all the time they needed to "get it right." They were going to bring something "special" as Todd said, bragging about being the pioneers of handcrafted open world gaming.

What a gd con.

I played for weeks hoping the game would become something at least on par to FO4. It never did. I was still in denial and I wanted to prove the haters wrong, only to fire it up one night realizing how right they were and how much I had been conditioned by AAA marketing to excuse so much.

I tested this conditioning for myself by going back to older legendary BGS RPGs (and Obsidian's FONV), which I hadnt played for a few years to be fresh for Starfield and it hit me like a brick to the face. Shartfield is not even 1/16th of the depth of those HANDCRAFTED games. Just bot-built crap.

When I looked at all the game time wasted on Shartfield, and actually accessed it all, I realized I was convincing myself that I was having fun when I absolutely wasnt due to spending $100 (sunken cost). There were some fun moments ofc, but not even close to $100 worth; fun moments were very few, far between and short lived.

Had to slap the fanboy out of myself.

It was ALL misleading marketing. MS didnt pour money into the game itself. It was the MASSIVE advertising campaign spanning several years which also deployed sponsored content creators, gaming sites and other marketing gimmicks. So for a lot of us hoping for a great game, it took awhile to break through the multi-million dollar illusions of all that misleading marketing.

Now I'm stuck with this $100 trash, hoping that a MASSIVE overhaul comes like NMS and CP - which is the worst way to be involved in this hobby since those are just 2 games while the mass majority of poorly launched titles are completely abandoned by shareholders - but of course people only bring up NMS and CP as an excuse that Shartfield "will get better" - forgetting that its up to the shareholders. Customer pay for a great game on Day One, not in year 5.

Fellow hobbyists must hold corporations accountable. Marketing is a powerful tool and can be easily abused, especially from a giant like MS, which is why there are false advertising laws, and false advertising is a MASSIVE problem in this industry.

If anything, I'm more angry at myself for having fallen for this soulless menu sim.

It quite amazing it took him so many hours to finally realize this. Perhaps he was forcing himself for something to keep him going until reality punched him in the jaw. Maybe the rest of the remaining players should wake up and do the same.

Yeah, we can't say he was being impulsive about his opinion, quite the contrary.

I came to say this

i was in a similar state like him with fallout 4 where i thought the game would get better if i play an extra 10 hours more, turns out i would rather play fallout tale of 2 wastelands to just how boring 4 really is. starfield is a major step down in bethesda's downward spiral of quality control. imagine TES 6 having loading screens when hitting a certain distance across the world.

Maybe the modder should go try to make their own game, instead of modding other people’s? Hope they looking forward to randos on the internet calling their work trash.

Well, it is definitely more productive than trying to make a mod for Starfield.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I hope the modder finds a game they enjoy to mod soon. I look forward to playing with the creation kit and seeing what modders make.

Yes I remember the barely functional skyrim co-op mod, calling it "one of the most popular" is a hilarious stretch though.

I agree, it would definitely be productive of them to try to make their own game and see how difficult it is. Perhaps the process will teach them to be a bit more respectful of others.

It's literally one of the most downloaded Skyrim mods on Nexus.

It is in fact not. It's not in the top 100, nor within the first ten pages sorting most downloaded of all time, and by year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Popular or not, you can never counter his opinion about Starfield, though.

Odd, I found his mod to be trash.
