Also I have found a drilling platform overrun by hostile critters and fought my way through the facility reading slates telling me what happened; but I don't know if there is actually a quest that send you to the platform as I have never seen any such quest.

My game play was basically just ship building and running the planets looking for best outpost spots and where can I find upper level bosses to relive of their loot. There is a lot of the same structures general found within visual distance or scan detection of each other; but I have also found some unique stuff too. Like outpost with cargo links that wouldn't work for me so I don't know if maybe they only work for pirates or what.

Anybody else come across the drilling platform? get a quest to go there or just happen across it?

Loved taking my ship just hopping around on planets and getting on top of it when landed and scouting for locations looking through my long range scope.

lol, oh ... sorry that's my latest and most preferred scouting ship, which I use as a scouting platform to scan long range and choose which found structure I want to go check out. I thought I had a picture of me sitting on top of it ; but my eyesight isn't so good these days and being in chameleon armor you cannot see me in the image .. I was sure I was there, maybe I fat fingered the interface and switch off selfie, not sure but yeah that's my scouting ship and what I found most preferable after building a few larger ones.

So you just find them exploring, like me or was there actually a quest that sent you to the location or near enough to see it?

Seems I have seen a similar layout building but not that one and it wasn't populated with robots as is the dogstar plant

I stumbled across the platform while scanning a planet/moon and had fun clearing it out. I do not believe it is any part of a quest though. Just a rare random poi.

I think the platform I cleared, more than once, was in the Volli system; but I could be confusing memories. On my NG+(x1) if I recall I had a cargo link supply mission that for some reason had a quest indication of going to a supply station. That quest didn't make sense why it sent me there as there was no link to enable at the structure where the quest marker lead me; but .... aside from ships like the Clamore parked on the landing pad waiting to be boarded and claimed, with in visual range on the horizon was this unusual structure that looked like and was when I hiked over there and found out a platform. no stairway up, it had a landing pad though like if a quest sent you there and you would land on the platform. That wasn't necessary though since it was a low grav planet and I just "peter-pan-jet packed" my way up and then was happy I had mobility and plenty of ammo when I touched down on the platform.

It's rare but you find it anywhere. Often with friendly workers, sometimes empty. And depending on the planet you are on the water down below can be clean, dangerous or frozen.
For combat the overrun and rare mining platform makes an interesting place to clear.

Not sure where I found it but I had a random where it was an odd toxic waste type dump with junk all over on a moon. I ran into the photographer there saying how they just love taking shots there.

I haven’t seen many of those other POIs. That’s cool.

There was one I got that was like a Terranrew coffee plant or something. Had some slates and they had been murdered by the thugs.

I found the same type of abandoned and ginormous drill as you, shown in your first screenshot. I had approached it from the end that hung over the pools, so I didn't realize how long the structure was until I fully explored it.

As soon as I jetted across the pools to the trashed and twisted end, I found a severely injured worker who asked me whether I had any kiffles to feed to him. What luck! I had a dozen of those in a food chest onboard my ship.

I wanted to tell him that I had plenty of kiffles back at the ship. I wanted to tell the guy that I could stabilize him here; I certainly had enough Emergency Kits in my personal inventory for it! As soon as we could get him back to the ship, I could finish treating his wounds and feed him all the kiffles he wanted. Of course, none of these were dialogue options I could choose.

Instead, I had to tell him that I didn't have any of the pastry to feed him. He died a moment later.

I left a Pigment (Flower) on him and searched the ruin. After a few minutes, halfway along the length of the drilling shaft, I found a food box that contained ten kiffles.

I was tired but that discovery made me sad and I had to stop playing for a few hours.

Yeah, that's the place or the structure that is and it was one that was like a replay of starship troopers and those bug planets.

Yeah, was something new to me. Went and cleared a cave for the folks there. Later on another planet I did find something that looked similar. If you zoom in and look to the upper left back on the horizon it looks similar; but I didn't go over to see exactly what it is.

When I was out finding structures and investigating a prophesy III landed, I dropped a beacon for later when I am bored and want to take the ship. Already got 3 of those and infact I stripped the last one to make my scout ship, Only parts left are a couple structure pieces, lol.

Then next structure, as usual when I find these places immediately 2 va'ruun ships show up and a patrol crawls out. Normally I would go capture the ship but was feeling more in the mood to keep looking for a platform to put on farm.

Then again a structure that I don't normally encounter and a stiletto lands, lol. Certainly no shortage of ships to strip for building out a custom sometime.

Yes, I've seen some of these. There are references to many sci-fi movies within the game at various outposts and on various derelict ships. You can tell the quest script writers had some fun with certain ones.

Frst time I came across that structure is in the setting of it completely overrun by Mantis-like creatures, and ooh boy there were some pretty poewrful and BIG bugs there. Was cool find.

I like exploring. The problem is that they need to add 100 or more models to the structures that generate. In time they will? Maybe?

I have been to all shown in this thread. When I came across the bug platform, it was late and I was tired, so I didn't go in.

I get too caught up in farming the high level bosses.
