Big Bang is very strong, and benefits from Both the Laser and Particle Beam perks, as well as the Marksmanship perks, resulting in a weapon that can annihilate basically anything in a single blast, even at considerable range. This is before we even talk about Legendary Variants.
Armor Penetration and Crippling (Both Legendary Tier skills though)
These turn Automatic weapons into truly terrifying weapons when both maxed out. Crippling will inflict Downed and Pain States on enemies basically in perpetuity, and the Armor Penetration skill doubles to triples the damage output of these weapons when maxed out
And of course you can grab a few others to supplement.
My go to at this point is an eon legendary pistol with 30 round clip. With pistol skills it’s a beast and tons of ammo,
If you like a certain gun though you can always find one that you can mod out to be what you want.
Heavy weapons are fun as well. And that also upgrades your mining laser that has free usage.
I completely agree, those still equiping an AA99, Grendel, Beowulf, drumbeat, tombstone and such likely have yet to loot an advanced inflictor. Now I agree when you are starting out and getting what you get, the Beowoulf is a great rifle for general purpose and has maybe best utility across varying distances; but as soon as you can mod-up an advanced Hard Target and advanced Inflictor nothing else will be as efficient and effective.

Now that's a gun.
What I didn't know that may be helpful, depending on your level and the level of enemies you encounter there will be different "grades" I will call it of equipment.
There is the base. modified, calibrated, refined, advanced and superior "grades" of equipment. The big difference is the damage stats. I have yet to see a superior weapon drop, only occasionally see armor in a superior level stats. This is a bummer to have a legendary drop when you are level 141 that is a base grade or refined and not at least advanced so that it is useful and worthy of equipping. It wasn't until I think maybe around level 40 or 50 that I first started seeing advanced weapons.
It actually is worth while to buy a weapon from a vendor, if you don't have an advanced version and see one at a vendor. Those credits spent you get back by selling the trash to that vendor. Example, I can easily accumulate 100K worth of weapons to vend; but you can likely only sell 4500 to 11000 credits worth at a time per vendor then play the waiting game to sell more. However if you buy something the vendor has that amount of credits then to buy your stuff you want to vend, so you just sell off your junk and get that cash all back, if you understand what I mean.
The Va'ruun Inflictor sometimes can be seen listed at the Wolfs den vendor, sometimes the trader at Neon will have one; but likely not until you have leveled to a height where you start seeing them having advanced versions of the weapons you commonly have seen. The inflictor will frequently drop at higher levels and when fighting more elite va'ruun, if I recall they will be priced at 57K credits. Typically I will see 3 or 4 drop if I take a Va'ruun Prophecy III ship populated with level 80+ NPC that I capture. I don't think any dropped for me at the Vultures roost, too low level. Go to the planets in the level 70+ range and hit bases to farm for them and also watch for them to show up on a vendor as you level to the advance weapon drop range. Keep in mind that even-though you are upper level fighting upper level this game will still continue to shove lower level weapons your way. Get off the calibrated and refined weapons ASAP, you want advanced so your weapon is max level, then mod it up and your weapon workbench.
Other than the RP of mini gunning a base, the most efficient is stealth sniping and using weapon that will 1 shot a level 80 NPC. This means you don't need med pack you dont get hit or seen as you are in chameleon mode and 100+M out. 1 shot 1 kill means never being low on ammo too.
Now on my third play through and nothing survives a head shot from my inflictor.
