how did starfield die so fast?
3 months since release its safe to say that starfield is a dead game. having a roughly similar active player count on steam as 10+ years old games and other bgs titles like fallout 4 and even less players than skyrim being dwarfed in active players by games like baldurs gate 3 and cyberpunk that had a similar timespan since release of the game and the dlc. considering it also sitting at mixed reviews with only 65% of players thinking the game is good i think its fair to ask how bethesda was able to drop the ball this bad? and what will this mean for tes 6? i cant imagine many players being still as exited for tes 6 after the disaster that starfield has become

It only died for you. The rest of us live in a better reality where the game is very much alive.

according to who? you?

none of those games have been on gamepass since release. apples and oranges, try again

why are you all so obsessed with a game you don't like?

give it a rest, let it go. no need to keep spreading the negativity, does your opinion really need validating that badly?

how does a single player game die?

It's a story based single player game not an online multiplayer game. Why do people not understand this.

Simple explanation that you and others may understand there aren't that many people playing it anymore, because most have already played through the story campaign and did whatever else they wanted to do and moved on to another game and since there isn't an online multiplayer there isn't a reason for most to continue playing it.

baldurs gate 3 is also a single player game thats been out longer than starfield and still has three times the active players and cyberpunk just added a dlc and the base game has been out for 3 years but still has twice the active players. even skyrim has been out for over a decade and has more active players than starfield. by your logic, these games shouldnt have so much players anymore because people have been playing them for a long time

incorrect. its a game with a multiplayer component, that is completely different

and cyberpunk just added a dlc and the base game has been out for 3 years but still has twice the active players.
yes, they just added a DLC... thats exactly why it has more players again

by your logic, these games shouldnt have so much players anymore because people have been playing them for a long time
incorrect. you don't seem to understand the logic:

- cyberpunk recently received an update
- bg3 has multiplayer
- starfield is on gamepass

People have lost interest is probably the more correct term. Baldur’s gate 3 still has roughly 130k players, Starfield doesn’t have enough content and replayability to keep people interested. BG3 also has a good story and interesting characters and companions where starfield doesn’t.

This game is just a mediocre borefest with nothing to do apart from the main quest and repetitive fetch side quests. The main two words that perfectly describe starfield is BORING and OUTDATED.

Lol, there's zero shame in losing to BD3 and Cyberpunk (which, by the way, lost popularity much quicker back in the day than Starfield). Starfield has very strong numbers and will remain one of the most played single-player titles on Steam for a long time.

hmm... i've certainly seen worse games but i've also seen better games.

and guess what.. the reviews do reflect absolutely that...

i sincierely feel with the poor fellas that hyped them self so much up just to get a pretty "normal" game...

the rest of us that expected as much.. technically we got what we expected... there is nothing to complain for people like me.

tldr?
us mediocre players will always outnumber fanboys and haters... we simply don't care for either side.

Define "die" and define "disaster".

A world exists outside the Steam bubble fyi.

Starfield is a mediocre game, at best. Terribly outdated game design and and tech. Worst of all it's so utterly bland and devoid of engaging content - it goes overboard trying to be as stale and inoffensive to everyone and everything that it's the game equivalent of grey-brown mass of boring crap. This game has nothing to say and everyone is a boring blob-character.

Try playing Starfield for several hours and then open a sexy, engaging, high octane, super RPG like Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 - notice how everything is wrapped in a sexy hot presentation with characters that feel alive and engaging. Blandfield has nothing that comes remotely close. Just a stale world vacuumed of all sexiness and engagement.

People finished the game and the creation kit isn't out yet. It's a single player game, not some live-service nonsense.

By being a sterile, boring, safe corporate product instead of a good game or work of art.
look, i am not a fan of starfield either, but why would you even care about player numbers in a single player game to begin with?
20k players isnt even that bad when it comes to sp games.

I wonder if it ever lived to begin with. :)
