please tell me you dont understand game engines without telling me
rage engine is 20 years old
unity is 20 years old
unreal is 20 years old
valve's source engine is 20 years old
quake engine is 20 years old
assassins creed anvil engine is 20 years old
creating a brand new engine from scratch is expensive as hell so nearly all modern day engines are built from 20+ year old variations of it.
That doesn't mean Bethesda makes bad games, for people who LIKE the core Bethesda gameplay.
1) is this game better than FO4 - yes, abso-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-lutely!
2) is this game better than vanilla Skyrim - no
3) is this game better than FO3 - yes
4) is this game better than vanilla Oblivion - yes
5) is this game better than vanilla FNV - no/yes/equal?
6) is it a good game - yes, absolutely
7) are there flaws in this game - yes, absolutely
8) does BGS care about fixing the flaws - no, they rely on community
9) is "woke" bad? - no, but some latent homosexual are butthurt - lmao
Bethesda as we knew it is finished
RIP TES
when you fork up a fat wad of cash to create a new engine from scratch, call them... You think if there was a better option they wouldn't use it? What are you, 10?
As the others have already pointed out, most companies are using old or variations of old engines, some of which older than the Creation Engine Bethesda use. The other engines also being of varying levels of modability, and Creation has served them well both for their own use, and also for modders.
Do you truly believe Skyrim would still be relevant if it ran on Unity? LOL. It would have faded in obsolescence by now if it ran on anything else due to how closed they are. No game is as modded as Skyrim is, and it's not for the fantasy setting or Dragonborn storyline. It's because it's easy, and largely due to the CK.
Todd's a salesman and a damned good one at that.
