Help! Caution! You are low on space to save your progress.
Tried disabling microsoft cloud storage. Have plenty of room. Turned off most all of the auto-saves. And now there are like three total save games listed in the "load" or "save" screen and I'm STILL getting this message. This is freaking me out as I've got loads of hours in at level 62. Help!

Thanks,

d.

microsoft cloud storage? in steam?
dashavingo Nov 26, 2023 @ 11:19am
I thought I de-linked it from the Microsoft cloud. Where can I find the Steam cloud? Plenty of room to save locally (although I like the cloud back up). Just DO NOT want to lose my progress. I'd have to hang up this game!

I've tried deleting the files in-game from the "Load" screen, as I understand this deletes both the local and cloud-based files. But it seems I'm getting an ever shorter number of available saves despite the above. What am I missing? Is there a save path locally or cloud where I can free up more space? This is a potential game-breaker, so no fun!!

Generally, its recommended to disable steam cloud save for starfield. As i know you can disable it for each game specific under library -> Starfield -> properties -> general. I hope I remember correct because I don’t use steam cloud saving.

With Steam, save files are local and then afaik synced to the cloud. You can play Starfield and most other games offline. On Windows, your Starfield save files are in the Documents folder. Perhaps check if that drive has enough space?

I don't think the cloud syncs until you exit the game. Some one verify this.

I do know that cloud storage is limited and that is probably what gives you the message.

Do you have by any chance installed the game on other devices as well (like laptop, steam Deck or else)?
I am pretty sure there is a total number of allowed saves and every device counts.
Also, saves have a tendency to come back when you play on different devices ...

Haven't installed it elsewhere Adin-- good thing to consider though. I folowed some advice here and so far so good.... Just hoping it doesn't rear it's ugly head again. Does Steam have it's own cloud or merely rely upon the Microsoft cloud; or is it that both "clouds" that of Steam and that of Microsoft, back up files unless otherwise directed?

Thanks gents-

d.
microsoft and steam cloud storages are entirely unrelated and both exist. You can right click the game in your library go to properties and untick (or tick) the steam cloud button for each game. I dunno if you WANT them to be in the cloud or not, if not, turn it off. If so, turn it on.
When you turn it off the local saves might disappear too depending on the game so go to y your save folder first and copy the ones you wanna keep to a side folder just incase, then if they disappear, slap those puppies in. If they don't, delete them (or keep) .
EZPZ!

Right, thanks all again and thanks to Milk for his input. Really appreciate how many of you take the time to help out and offer great feedback. With notable exceptions, the trolls don't seem to crawl out from under their rocks on this game (except maybe all the discussion on how WOKE or not Starfield is...)

Thanks again,

d.

I'm having this same issue. I have deleted saves. The available steam cloud space and the saved space on the cloud did not change. What am I missing?
saxus Nov 28, 2023 @ 9:24pm
After playing and saving for 3 hours, the numbers on Steam Cloud did not change

Thanks all. I've switched to local saves only and, because of the info provided here, found useful ways to fix this. Gawd, you'd think this wouldn't be so baffling. Still, thanks for the invaluable information.

I NEVER play games online, I shut off my internet access before I start any game, so I am not using cloud, don't even like the idea of having my data on someone else's computer. I deleted all but my last save and still get the error. Bethesda either fix it or give me my money back.

Hello bruce - don't worry I put on my tinfoil hat before I started typing my reply... and good job searching for your issue

While the Steam forums are a great place to bi tch and moan about all the things wrong with the game... NO ONE from Bethesda is going to read your reply.... NO ONE

However... If you want to affect real change, submit your report here:
