If all I want to do is go to the next Unity, (i.e. beat the Scorpius and Helix) then I'll commandeer an Ecliptic Claymore. It is a nice C class that doesn't need a lot of modification.
People keep harping on the open planet stuff as if it makes a difference to game play. It doesn't, you'll be bored stiff before you reach the limit of any cell. They made many updates to the engine.
Not sure how much the Claymore @ is, Dragon Fire 2 was $300K so yes it's pricey. But once you far in game it's not that much, even after I'm sitting on 1.2 million in my account.
