Biggest FLOP in Bethesda's history
Just a couple of months since release, and the game already has less online than Skyrim lmao. Let's talk about why this happened.

Running on an outdated engine and not offering interesting plot, variety or characters, Bethesda games have long ceased to be something innovative and original. Frankly, they've been selling the same game under different skins for decades.

And finally, it no longer works and doesn't bring them money, because Wokefield, made on the Morrowind engine, for some reason requires an RTX4090 lvl gpu, because in Wokefield you have a million planets with absolutely nothing to do on them, because Wokefield it's a game about strong women ruling the space civilization of the future, and there's literally nothing else in it.

I think this game deservedly bombed. :dexter:

Minimal contractual obligation and now the old guard are all retiring. Its over. Fun while it lasted.

NO amount of expansions, patching (overhyped minimum features especially), mods, creation club microtransaction trash, or cope is ever going to fix this soulless pos. Gameplay and under-the-hood mechanics, or lack there of, are just fundamentally bad - not to mention BGS's blatantly neglected industry standards, QoL, and best practices. Monetization from their other low effort mobile/live service zoomer games spoiled them; now they couldnt make a game even if they wanted.

There's no exploration/discovery (so no satisfyingly epic journey... to anywhere), no intelligent or well thought out level design (so adhd kiddos dont lose interest 30 seconds into a building, cave, temple, etc), no immersive environmental storytelling (like in TES or FO) except for rinse repeat enemies, items, terminals, notes, etc etc etc.

It's just a glorified House Builder Sim (skinned as a Ship Builder), where you cant really do anything with the ships themselves. The actual handcrafted parts may be "=< previous games," but theyre so cookie cutter/flipped themselves that once youve seen a few pieces of so called "handcrafted" content youve seen most of the entire game. The only real exploration is navigating menu after menu after MENU. Whats there never comes together.

The Golden Age of BGS like former/current fanboys are hoping for wont ever return. BGS's pivoting point was with FO Shelter's billions from monetizing. Now BGS IPs will be used to siphon fanboy wallets with mobile games, microtransactions, and low effort games like Starfart.

We are 2 Gens deep into the Microtransaction Era, so we'll just be getting more soulless, lifeless, mobile model, live service conditioned iGenner zoomer games. :/

You know what's the worst part? They could have gotten away with it. They could have put out a new TES or Fallout with a mediocre story as long as the right elements were in place. Even the clunky engine can chug along for a few more games as long as the game is fun to play. Actualy roleplaying with real choices with real consequences that creates replay value. An interesting world with interesting quests, not to mention interesting side quests. Different factions that are actually functionally different, and with the whole moral spectrum involved, also the gray area.

But they never listen, so we got this instead.

Not their biggest flop by a wide margin.

If you want to see what "flop" looks like, look at Redfall.

Redfall is not made by Bethesda, they are only publishers, so that can´t be used.

I also doubt Redfall cost that much to produce and market. It was clearly rushed out when they realised that every veteran fled Arkane.

All the talk about 'woke' everywhere is really annoying. The game is a failure not because of 'woke' stuff.
I like Starfield. I don't love it like I do other games in my library/other platforms. It has that Bethesda charm to it which makes me want to play it but the performance is just lets face it...terrible for a game of this calibre and that makes me not want to load it up but when I do, I'm playing for a good few hours. It's not a BAD game, but it's not worth writing home about either.
I love the 69% cope posting on thanksgiving. I hope you all at least stuffed your faces and spent time with family first

you realise the whole world isn't America? I do believe its only Americans that make a big deal out of Thanksgiving.

They are celebrating some mythical event where the people they later exterminated saved their lives.

So no... No one celebrates Thanksgiving... Just American hypocrites.

Like... They have a problem with Columbus and you know all those bad people who killed the natives... But they still celebrate "Thanksgiving" and pretend they are doing someone a favor by doing so.

It's actually really bad optics but hey...

So funny to see threads like this. You could say that Redguard was Bethesda's biggest flop or maybe Battlespire there was also a mobile platform game tied into a system similar to the Gameboy or Steam deck. These also happened when Bethesda was in a much more vulnerable situation then they are in today. Yet they survived to make a lot of games since that all have been successful. If you don;t care for the game that is fine but to somehow think it is going to sink Bethesda is laughable.

What a glorious hypetrain wreck anyway. From the review embargo to the chinese leaks, to the bethesda spambots, to the manufactured controversies. In my memory, never a game so mid failed so spectacularly. Even free on gamepass 3/4 of the people didnt bother to install that crap. XD

yet here youare talking about it.

It did not bomb, it raked in over a Billion dollars in Revenue.

Also you don't even own it.

It did not rake in a billion, and no amount of saying that makes it true. It is raking in a tarnished reputation and irreparable damage to their brand name tho.

Well, all I'll say is that the games have been declining in quality since FO4 and it doesn't look like it's improving.
Empukris Nov 23, 2023 @ 6:05pm
The biggest flop? No not even close. FO76 was. Server meltdown, hacked database, players able to access test room, canvas bag, nuka cola, vanilla is boring as hell, broken gameplay balance, inconsistent lore, p2w items, broken enemy spawn rate etc. There are too many to list down that people consider T posing enemy as normal. Starfield is nowhere near that level of mess.

I dont like starfield but I got to admit a few parts of this game is do enjoyable. FO76 vanilla is trash level tier. It stay that way until they release expansion that kind of fix that game. But most gamer seems they forgot that part of Bethesda dark history.
CzUSMC Nov 23, 2023 @ 6:21pm
Yeah Star field is absolute trash... I feel like those people that said Star field doesn't get better until 12 hours in only said that so you couldn't refund the game... I put over 100 hours into Star field it never got better.... Just sucked worse and worse. All the Fan boys that blindly defend Star Fraud is going to be the reason why Elder Scrolls 6 will be a failure... No point in modding it when there will be no downloads because nobody plays it anymore. Everyone went back to Skyrim, Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate and basically anything else that isn't Crap Field.
