No HDR support on Windows 10?
Can someone please tell me why Bethesda is only allowing HDR on Windows 11?? Is there some kind of backdoor deal between Bethesda and Microsoft to try to get people to upgrade to Windows 11?? I have games from 2019 that have HDR support on my Windows 10

What are you talking about? HDR works on both Windows 10 and Linux with Starfield.

On windows 10 the game seems to just mostly translate a SDR signal to an HDR one so you get correct overall brightness levels. Same as Fallout 4 does. It's not a proper HDR implementation. I can't speak for what the windows 11 version does but on 10 it's very much lacking dynamic range. You can't calibrate the nits by yourself. Even when you manage to calibrate the contrast vaguely correctly you seem to not get bright highlights where there should be and the black levels are elevated.

read the notes in the patch. HDR is only for Windows 11. There is no HDR brightness option in the display settings for Starfield when I'm running it from Windows 10. Absolute bonkers!!!

The shades of black on this game are just AWFUL. I'm running this game on an OLED LG with HDR and i have to turn contrast and brightness all the way in the game settings just to see people at night. But unfortunately it looks washed out for most everything in the game. Just poorly designed.

Only when outside that seems to happen, the interior color and black levels are really good, you will notice a big change in how clear it is when ya walk inside places, it is wierd

thats because it is meant to be used with windows 11's "autoHDR" feature, a windows setting that automatically tries to translate SDR content to HDR.

Forget about it, Digital Foundry has released a video on it, HDR implementation in Starfield is pure garbage, same issue on the Xbox version.

again, thats because it isnt real HDR, it relies on windows 11's "autoHDR" feature.

A bit sad considering they added PBR in the engine, with the performance cost which goes with it. Lighting in the game is broken ugly.

Lighting is only broken on outside areas it seems, certain areas when you walk inside it clears up and sharper
