DLSS Frame Gen
Legit question, how do you enable frame gen? I have 4080 videocard and I can see new contrast settings, dlss, dlaa, reflex but not frame gen. Is there any requirements like getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ win11? In that case bethesda should check steam pc specs page to see what people are using lol

My guess it's bethesda decided to exclude win10 users from nice features.
Under win10 it's most likely that you also need to activate this first which is enabled by default under win11 to make frame generation active in games:
DLSS Frame Generation - how to enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling
- Press Windows key on your keyboard and type "graphics" and press enter. - Graphics settings menu should open.
- In the Graphics settings menu toggle the "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" option.
- Restart your PC.
Otherwise the option is greyed out.

Unlikely the operation system has any effect on frame generation.
Using 4080 and win11 myself and it's simply a separate option you can turn on in display settings.
Maybe a conflict with mods?

I suspect you also have latest nvidia driver from nov 14?
To use frame gen you need to enable DLSS upscaling first as it doesn't work at native res, so maybe the menu option is hidden until you enable DLSS?

Ok so with newest drivers I still don't have dlss frame gen option. I tried every dlss quality setting and tab out after applying it. It never showed dlss frame gen option.

My guess it's bethesda decided to exclude win10 users from nice features. Great job bethesda.
Other game devs have no issue adding hdr and dlss frame gen to their games working on win10, just saying

Very unlikely windows 10 has anything to do with it.

Speaking of all this, I have a 4090, and am not tech savvy. The game runs fine for me, but I have absolutely no idea how to set all those settings so it takes advantage of my card.

Same issue here on Windows 11 with a 4060 Laptop GPU. Tried restarting the game after turning V-Sync off. Still no luck getting frame gen to show in the menu although I'm running the latest studio driver.

1. Reflex is an optimization that lets your CPU talk to your GPU in a way that prioritizes latency reduction over frame rate stability. This is fine across most setups/games but on some setups in some games it can cause frame pacing issues. Boost forces your GPU to run at higher clock speeds all the time which very minimally reduces latency but it's extremely minimal on modern hardware and the downsides to using boost vastly outweigh the benefit. Boost draws much more power from the wall and makes your GPU unnecessarily hotter. Personally I wouldn't even use it in competitive games.

Recommendation: Use Reflex all the time so long as you don't notice frame pacing issues /microstutter with it turned on. Don't use boost.

Neither setting below should be turned on if you are already hitting the max refresh rate of your monitor.

2. DLSS renders the game at a low resolution and upscales it to your native resolution using machine learning. Turning it on typically trades visual fidelity for FPS although it can actually make some aspects of a game look better than native. For example with it on the game can look less sharp and cause some artefacting, especially around objects in motion, but it may actually reduce jaggies compared to native. DLAA on the orther hand uses DLSS technology to upscale the game past your monitor's native res as a good form of anti-aliasing.

Recommendation: Use DLSS if you aren't getting enough FPS for your liking and don't want to reduce other settings. Use DLAA instead if you want a good form of anti-aliasing, have the extra power for it, and don't mind the artefacting.

3. Frame Generation creates fake frames between real frames like TVs do when you have them in "smooth motion" mode except it's better because it actually knows which way objects are moving instead of guessing and it also uses machine learning. The gist of this is it makes games look smoother than they actually are. If with frame gen off you are getting say 30 fps and with it on you are getting 60 the game will look like a 60 fps game but will only be as responsive as a 30 fps game. This mismatch is particularly bad for competitive games but frame gen is still a good feature for single player games. The downside to frame gen is it can still cause some artefacting and can increase input latency.

Recommendation: Use Frame Generation only in single player games and only if you first tweak your settings so you can hit a playable framerate with it off.

Can confirm frame gen does work fine on a 40 series card in Windows 10 as long as you turn the Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling option on. It is required to use the feature. As mentioned in Windows 11 it is enabled by default.

I'm not using frame gen myself as my FPS is just fine with regular DLSS. Getting well over 120 in most areas without needing frame gen. I did try it to check it works and it does.

It works now[i.gyazo.com] TYSM
Bethesda could have done better job explaining things. Hope this thread helps someone having hard time finding frame gen option

Good find. Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling fixes the issue and more. GPU scheduling also fixed the microstuttering I was getting that was making it unplayable. It's unfortunate that we now have games that are unplayable with this turned on (Resident Evil VR mods) and games reliant on it that are unplayable with it turned off (Starfield).
